Episode 3 showed us that Gardenia was on the WEST COAST of the USA..

Why do you think they made an ITALIAN cartoon that is popular in ITALY take place in America? When Straffi has a dislike for America and whatnot?

Verry interesting

The same as why (so many) Americans love settings that take place in Japan, or Europeans who take interest in settings in Asia. Maybe I'm not making sense, but Straffi is banking on the "cool factor" of the location perhaps. Sometimes Japanese directors cherry pick names out of other cultures/languages that really make no sense for their intended use. It could be the same here. He may have been trying to pinpoint a cool, hip location that, even though it doesn't make much sense (to me), sounded "cool" for his audience. I guess that's my theory anyway. Could be very wrong =).

That is pretty interesting... and it's also nice to know where gradenia is, thanks for the info. I don't feel like watching the episodes until they sub or dub them.

Maybe he didn't want it to be in Italy, so viewers will have feeling it is some "magic place, far away", and yet he wanted to have real Earth place?

Is it possible that he wants to have his on dub in US or UK? In the movie they used sparks instead of English dub.

{Yes, it's Domino in RAI English everywhere but the movie.}

Huh, Gardenia in the west coast...I agree with Zhan, it's the 'cool factor'. Sure, he doesn't seem to like the USA, but apparently he recognizes that a lot of kids think places other than where they are from is 'cool'. {For instance, in my circle of friends at least, everyone wants to live in either New York, California, or Europe when they grow up.}
