Monster High is Mattell's newest franchise, which is to kick off at the end of May with a doll line, a series of books and a movies during the Fall.
The story is easy: Monster high is a school populated with the kids of, well.... monsters. The main group of girls are:
Frankie (Daughter of Frankenstein)
Lagoona Blue (Daughter of the Sea Monster)
Clawdeen Wolf (Daughter of the Wolf Man
Draculaura (Daughter of Dracula)
Cleo de Nile (Daughter of the Mummy)
Ghoulia (Daughter of the Zombie)
And the odd boy out: Deuce Gorgon (Son of Medusa)
Well, I'm stoked. Sure, the concept isn't new, but I just love the designs of these characters. I have a soft spot for the classic monsters, I just love the in-jokes that betray a pretty wide knowledge and a definite love for the old stories, and awful word puns are a guilty pleasure of mine (Fearleading? Oh kill me)
In a way, it's like Winx; Teen girls with a supernatural twist. I'm expecting great things from this franchise.
Also, the dolls, while not in store, had an accidental (?) early listing on a certain toy site. The list is gone, but due to some fast reaction from a certain doll afficienado on Livejournal, we got reviews and details on said dolls. They're awesome.
