I use adobe photoshop for all my graphic and my fanart. I luvv it ^^ Uh, anyway, I got it a longgg time ago from one of my sister's friends (that was probably not exactly legal but I was too young to remember...). I'm sure there's a trial version, but the full version, I'm pretty sure, is rather expensive. ♥

If you get Gimp, there are many websites (like for Adobe Photoshop) where you can download more patterns, brushes, and other custom features. (I've found deviant art is a good place to look for these).

Well, it's extremely expensive, so I can see why your mom didn't let you buy it.
Also, Photoshop is for more advanced graphic makers. Since you're just beginning to learn about graphic-making now, I don't think you really need Photoshop. GIMP and MS Paint should be enough.
