powers: mater manupulation
latent power: when events happen another entity takes over and can block out pain and give extreme strength as well as a lethal poison on the edge of her weapon
weakness: when taken over fire can repel her but it has no affect on her normal self. she fears losing control as well as hospitals.
Name: Bahir Cole
age: 27
look:
powers: None. He's quickwitted and knows how to handle a gun (He carries around a 9mm with 'special' bullets), but as far as supernatural powers are concerned, he doesn't have any.
That he's aware of, anyway. He's also one of the few humans who seems to remember the supernatural being a part of his city.
weakness: Having no superpowers always made him feel kinda... squishy. Especially around beings that do. He's got the scars to show that he's by no means immortal.
It was quiet amongs the city streets.
Unusual, especially since the place where Bahir was standing was the outside of one of the more popular clubs of the city. However, the silence was more then justified.
As you see, their owner, Alexander Buscu, had vanished.
As did many of his patrons.
"It's just... weird." One of the people outside said as Bahir was asking. "Just yesterday he celebrated his five year anniversary."
"And you're absolutely sure that there was nothing in common with him or his patron besides the place it happened?"
"Not really. Just a bunch of folks out for a party."
"Ah, thank you." Bahir said as this DID give him a clue.
Because Alexander and his patrons weren't just 'a bunch of folks'. In fact, the 'Velvet Midnight' as the place was called, was a haven for supernatural creatures. Vampires, werewolves, elves, the occasional fish people. All sorts. They all came to it to be amongst beings like them. Heck, Alexander himself was an Incubus. And while humans were welcome, to celebrate the club's roots, the anniversaries were always 'Supernaturals only' affairs.
Yet nobody brought this up. Stranger still, when Bahir tried to bring his up, he was just gawked at before being laughed off. As if this notion of non-human entities was somehow impossible or ridiculous. That said, the many cries of 'Just drop it' or 'You're too close to this since Alexander was your friend' only made Bahir more determined to figure out what was going on.
But where could he start? Absence of something could be a lead, but one that is difficult to follow.
Those were his taught as he exited the empty club and sighed.
"This is going to be a long night..."
((There ya go! I hope you liked it!))
(haha ya that is amazing very well done , going to do a little third personing here)
the night was still quite young as a girl delivered a small package to bahir "delivery for the detective. your eyes only" she left as soon as she was done and inside the box was a video tape of a old house with people being dragged into it as well as an address to a old mansion. the people going in were all easily recognized supernaturals
Bahir found the box on his appartment doorstep. He opened it, somewhat incredulous.
"Who uses tapes anymore?" He muttered to himself, walking inside. "Oh, right, I do." He couldn't help but add as he placed it in his old VHS and played it.
The results shocked him. Especially since he paused on a specific person being dragged away, kicking, screaming, wings flapping angrily.
"Alex..." He muttered.
That was IT.
Looking at the adress, he immediately went for his gun and went out towards it. Backup be damned.
the old mantion is old and in shambles with a beat up van in a small driveway. a iron fense surrounding the property. there was a storm brewing as lighting struck the rods on the roof of the old building. as another flash of lighting hit a scream can be heard from inside then thunder as al the lights go out in the building
"That's not ominous at all." Bahir couldn't help but say as he stood there. "Maybe I should've gone for backup..." The scream shook him out of it. "No time. Let's do this." He said, heading towards the iron fence. "There has to be an opening somewhere..."
the old gate leading towards the front door is crooked and rusted as well as farther down there is a large gate wide open and dented like a car had ran threw it from inside the gate as rain starts to poor down heavily
"Seriously?!" Bahir couldn't help but go as the rain started pouring down. Not really questioning things, he went for the open gate and ran through, towards the house. There he started scanning for a window. EIther open of ready to be smashed open.
windows line the front of the house but all are a bit above smashing reach, except for 2 at the front door that are beside the front door where a faint light can be seen flickering
"The front door. Of course the only way in is the front door. I've seen this movie." Bahir muttered, before heading towards them, carefully peeking in to where the light came from.
inside you see a red hooded person kneeling and two bodys on the floor only the the outlines are visible really but the color red is all over the ground
"No..." Bahir muttered, before taking his gun and breaking the window and rushing through, pointing his gun at the hooded figure. "Put your hands where I can see them."
rose turns fast with her eyes wide as she hears the glass breaks, in the darkness her eyes are slowly dimming from a red glow "they deserved it..." she said before the glow vanishes and a new paniced look appears on her face "no no... not agian what did i do"
"You tell me." Bahir said, confused. "And I swear, if you did anything to Alex...!"
"who is alex... did my parents take him.." rose asked slowing her hands which have a weird black dust on them "i swear i don't know what your talking about... i was just in my room"
"Who are your parents?" Bahir asked? "Who are you? What was with the tape that was sent to me? I... What's going on here?"
"im rose casterwill and these are my parents.. lilith and damian casterwill... they are scientists.. and i don't know about any tape.. only that what ever my parents do is down stairs.. they only took me down there once.. and i don't remember anything about it... only that they said i tripped and was injured.. that was yesturday" rose said not tearing up really about the death of her parents at all but not taking her eyes off the barrel of the gun
"And the dissapearances going on in the city, that ring a bell?" Bahir said, lowering the gun, but not putting it away. She didn't look like a threat, but he was still weary.
by her side in the red on the floor was a giant black scythe imprint that is solid black as if it just disappeared there "my parents doing...for some... others want it too"
"Are those people still alive...?" Bahir tried, voice gaining a desperate edge. "Or are they...?"
"depends on what you definition of living is... most arn't within the first week..." rose admited as she watched his reactions "my sister couldn't handle it... she was there crowning achivement... "
"No..." Bahir said, taking some steps back, before shaking his head. All this cryptic talk was getting to his head. "Take me down there." He said. "I'll decide if your definition of 'living' is good enough."
"o..okay" rose said slowly getting up and turning towards a staircase up, she walks over to it and pulls back a hidden panel that veils a staircase lower. she walks down the stairs and opens up what can only be described as a cell door into a giant Frankenstein lab. with many super naturals suspended in a green liquid with random parts and floors completely red as well as a giant table in the center
"I've definitely seen this movie." Bahir said, watching his step as he carefully entered, looking around, trying to find any evidence of life.
none are moving around at all and one has a weird skeleton inside it with feathers left behind "this is there lab... any that don't serve there purpose is driven off to another lab" rose is staying really close to the entrance not really going to far in as her eyes are fixated on the table
"What purpose?" Bahir asked. "Could you please be a bit more clear about what you know and what you don't know?"
"they take what they want from super natrual beings and try to put them into others to make perfect beings" rose said not looking away from the table "they all try that... my parents are the only ones that have done it twice.. but they said i wasnt perfect"
"Take...? Like carve them up?" Bahir speculated, sounding somewhat freaked out.
"no and yes... the essense of there powers are drained from there bodys.. and sometimes its easier for them to drain it from a cut up person... thats at least what they told me" rose said about as freaked out about seeing all this as you would expect but a bit more
"Alright, so this... this draining process.... Can it be survived?" Bahir asked, rubbing his head, which was feeling as if he was banging it against a stone wall.
"no or they wouldn't need some many super natruals" rose said quickly "if your friend was brought here hes gone... or is going to be gone soon at another lab" she said seeing he was grasping for straws
"Well, only one thing to do, now is there?" Bahir said. "Do you know where this other lab is?
"only one... its on the other side of town but they would attack us on sight.. they only new my parents" rose said happy at the thought of leaving she already started walking backwards up the staircase
"Wouldn't be the first time." Bahir said, scratching his scarred cheek as they left. "I'm willing to take that risk."
"that is if my sister didn't get to him first" rose said quickly rushing up the stairs
"Why would she want to?" Bahir asked.
"because she was an exparement like.... me" rose said as she stopped moving as she looked back to the now empty entry hall. only the outlines of 2 bodys were left in the red soaked floor
"I'll... call up a coroner." Bahir said, realizing he might need to slow down a bit. With that he took out his cellphone.
"what for" rose asked turning quickly to look at him but her eyes darting around
"The dead bodies?" Bahir said. "I don't think it's a good idea to just let them lay there and decompose." He said, dialing a number. "Hello? Ayumi? It's me. Listen I... got myself into... something big. Can't quite tell what but... well, there's two bodies here that need to be taken away. Could you help with that?" A small silence. "Thanks. You're a lifesaver."
the bodys seam to have vanished when you look back towards them, as rose starts to move quickly to the door "we need to leave.. they did things to themselfs..."
"You know what? Never mind. I'll explain later." Bahir said to the person on the phone. "What sort of things?"
"they tested on themselves after my failure and my sister leaving, they couldn't trust anyone else with the power.. at least thats what they said... they are going to be so mad.. i thought staying near them might dul there rage but i showed you everything.. i thougth they were really dead.." rose said in a panic as she quickly opened the door
"Alright... calm down... I barely got what you were saying there..." Bahir tried. "Listen, if this is too much for you, you can just give me an adress and I'll try to do this on my own."
"no its to late they are alive and if they are alive they will tell everyone to mo.. " at rose's words an explotion can be seen in the distance with smoke pillering off with 5 more following after "to move..."
"And 'Be quiet about it' apparently wasn't part of that order." Bahir said. "At least we know where to go to." With that he headed towards where the explosions hit.
rose quickly followed looking around "what are you even looking for.. maybe if you describe him i could tell you if he was kept at our house"
"I'm looking for what's going on. And trying to rescue a friend in the process." Bahir answered. "His name is Alexander Buscu, but most call him Alex. He's a bartender at this place called the Velvet Night. Bright red hair. Yellow eyes. Likes to dress in black... In his Incubus form he has bat wings on his back and these tiny batwings on his head." Bahir described. "He's... he's a good friend of mine. Probably the only one in this city."
"my familys been looking for one for a while... but i remember seeing him before i blacked out... he might have escaped tonight before they got him downstairs" rose said trying to remember past her black out period but couldn't really remember anything besides a man yelling at her or something
"That does sound like him. He's fierce." Bahir couldn't help but smile a little. "He's never had to hire a bouncer since he usually takes care of roudy customers himself." He sighed. "I just have to... stay positive."
"my parents never go after a person twice.. so i would be more positive then you seam.. i can't remember what he said tho... i blacked out then next thing i saw was you breaking the front door and my parents on the ground" rose said bitting her lip a bit worried about this big gap
"Probably something I wouldn't want to repeat in polite company." Bahir said. "He was probably scared and didn't know if you were part of the assailants or not."
"well.. do you know of any spots he would go to .. you don't know ether do you.. even tho im cooperating you don't know if im just trying to lure you into bringing more out do you" rose said looking right at his eyes
"'Kay. Weird." Bahir said, a bit confused by this sudden 'You can't trust me' spiel. "I know some places, but you just made it so... I'd rather not tell you."
"its cause i don't know what they did to me... they could be able to control me or do anything... these arn't people looking for the parenting trophy.." rose said trying to be honest since he didn't instantly shoot her earlier
"Of course." Bahir said, rubbing his head. This was getting more obtuse by the second. "So, next question: can I trust you to come along with me to figure this all out?"
"that i can't really answer.. its up to you" rose said looking right into his eyes as she waited to see how this might end up
"Great..." Bahir muttered, mulling it over. Even if he did trust her, the girl was... flakey. Which could go horribly wrong either way. But it was either that or stepping into the Lion's Den without any clue on what to do. That, in the end, felt worse. "Fine. I'm going to take the risk of trusting you." He eventually said.
"okay.. well ill follow you at least till you know your friends okay... i need to go into hidding.. before my parents finish setting up new areas" rose said her eyes returning to looking around again
"Good. Now let's go. I want to get to the bottom of this." Bahir said.
"just be careful not to shake the hornets nest.. this is bigger then you think" rose said quickly following behind him not sure if she herself should be doing this but it was better then going out on her own now that she ratted out her family
"And then what? Let them continue killing people?" Bahir challenged. "You've got the wrong person if you think that's something I'll do."
"why do you think the police don't mess with them.. they are scared and payed off, all of them" rose said looking right into his eyes "in a year no super natruals that were born that way will be around only the created ones... its just a fact... its a hydra.. you cut one head off and two take its place"
"And you think turning a blind eye is the right thing to do?" Bahir hissed. This hit a nerve. "Not on my watch. I rather die knowing I tried to stop this then live with the knowledge that people got killed because I didn't."
"they only take one of each creature.. and now that they are exposed.. they might stop" rose backed up a bit at this hiss feeling a little voice in the back of her mind growing a bit louder
"Okay, one: you just said that within a year there will be no more born supernaturals so you're just lying to my face and TWO: don't pull that 'Needs of the many' nonsense with me. Even if it can save just one life, I'm going to do that." Bahir said, now getting seriously angry.
"you don't know how many have tried.. how many times someone broke into our home.. im not going back to that" a light pole near by starts to flicker and bend towards them as the red glow starts to return slowly growing
"Then leave." Bahir hissed. "Go. Leave them to their fate. But not me." He closed his eyes. "I know what it's like to be one of the abandoned. I'm not going to let that happen to anyone."
"you think i don't know.. my sister left.. the one person i could trust to keep me out of that lab and she left, no warning no goodbye.... the only reason im coming with you is because she could be at the other end of all this..." rose said closing her eyes
"Then let's GO." Bahir said, getting enough of this.... child's antics as he just started walking towards where the explosions were. If he wanted things to go forward, he'd have to do so himself. As always. "And people wonder why I don't bother with others..."
rose took a bit before following behind him "okay.. and sorry about that" she said sighing having to admit her excuses where light
"Just... don't talk as if trying to save lives is a bad thing..." Bahir said, sighing. "I get that enough from my superiors."
"i wasn't trying to say that... but as it stands now, any progress they had will be hulted for at least a week... not to mention the police might already be there to cover everything up.. the only way i see us doing anything is drawing them out with something they want" rose said as in the distants the flashing red and blue lights could start to be seen
"Of course you weren't." Bahir muttered. "And how do you suppose we do that?" He asked out loud. "What would they want?"
"a super natrual they don't have or that escaped.. they don't actively go after escaped ones.. but if they see an opertunity... i don't know if they could pass it up" rose said looking him over a bit wondering how he even remembers them since most humans gave up on believing in them after the first disapprence
Bahir looked away, before sighing. He really didn't want to do this.
"What would they think of... not someone supernatural themselves, but a conduit?" He asked.
"that.. would definitely draw anyone of them out of hiding" rose said quickly as she knew her parents were searching actively for one
"Good... Good." Bahir said. "Figured they'd like one. I mean what better way to invite supernatural creatures then to give them a nice, inviting body to possess?" He took a deep breath. "Well. We're in luck because guess who's a conduit?" He said, pointing at himself.
"body to possess? sorry.. my parents didn't really tell me about powers.. or even what they put into me" rose said looking at him with her head tilted a bit
"... Yes, that's a Conduit. A human body that is extremely easy for, say, demons or ghosts to posses." Bahir said. "Like me and... you. I guess?"
"me? why would you say that?" rose said confused a bit on that as she started to circle him a bit looking at him
"Okay, I misunderstood and... would you please stop that?" Bahir said as she saw her circling around him like he was some sort of curiosity. Some sort of freak.
"sorry.. i kinda pegged you as a normal human when i first saw you to be honest... i guess that explains why you remember.. otherwise you would have been affected by the spell" rose said stopping in front of him
"I like to think I still am." Bahir said, sighing. "Or at least that I used to be until that deal."
"a deal? you made a deal with a super natrual? a demon... that almost never ends well for both ends of the deal" rose said looking into his eyes
"I just wanted to get out of there, okay?!" Bahir shouted, suddenly getting defensive. "I just... wanted to go home."
"then lets go there, if they saw you then they will come to us" rose said seeing that was a painful nerv she struck and didn't want to push to her now only protection from her parents
"Yeah, let's... let's just focus on what we're trying to do here." Bahir said, trying to calm himself.
"yes tho.. if im honest i don't know how they come to take people... nore how we could counter it" rose said bitting her lip
"Well... if all else fails I can just walk up and just offer myself." Bahir suggested.
"thats if we run into them.. i rather not meet them on there terms" rose said quickly "they have taken to many and know to much about what they did to me to risk just walking in as i assume you don't have any powers besides your gun there"
"Not unless I have some... let's just go with 'someone' to make a deal with. That said, I know how to handle myself." Bahir said. "Supernatural or not, with a good head on your shoulders, you can survive anything."
"who exactly do you have in mind" rose said tilting her head again
"Come again?" Bahir asked, not really getting her train of taught.
"it sounded like you thought of something or someone to help? cause im not sure how to get in contact with any of them" rose said
"Unfortunately, not one that will help us from the goodness of their... I don't think they even have hearts, anatomically speaking." Bahir said.
"then i think our best move is to set our trap on your turf these are people with the ability to have multiple powers inside them... lest of which could be mind control.. tho i will admit my parents never showed me anything like that.. and they were the top in there messed up feild" rose said bitting her lip
"My turf is... a small appartment above a grocery store." Bahir said. "I'm not exactly the Kingpin."
"anything they can't just blow up and get to you is an advantage" rose said slowly "that is if you think this is the best corse of action.. your the police officer:
"Private. Detective." Bahir said. "There's a difference. And no, my appartment isn't bomb proof. Not in my budget."
"but if they blew it up they risk exposing there existence, its like if you wanted to meet someone that you worried would kill you. wouldn't you want to meet in a public place where there should be allot of people" rose said
"A lot of potential innocent victims, more like. I mean, how sure are we they won't just blow things up? Like, do you really think we're the only ones that noticed the ones from earlier?" Bahir asked. "If they wanted to stay inconspicuous they wouldn't use explosives in the first place."
"i wouldn't be surprised if it was blamed on gas main explosions... and that they have a few officers in there pockets for just this reason... but as soon as a normal human dies it will be all over the news.. with supernaturals the spell cast makes it so no one really notices unless your a super natural already... so i think its our best option" rose said
"That's not how things work. Human Deaths due to the Supernatural are hushed up all the time. Let me tell you about that one time I got myself caught in the middle of a Vampire Dine and Dash." Bahir said.
"oh my... that must have been messy.. but i don't really have an idea of where to start looking for them... besides where the explotions happened" rose said slowly a little curious about what happened
"Well then. Let's go to those explosions." Bahir said, pointing.
"okay, if you think that is best" rose said as she started to walk down the sidewalk again towards the firey rubble as the fire department rushes by us
"And that's why you don't use explosives if you want to keep a low profile." Bahir said, glancing at the firetruck passing by.
"i wouldn't be so sure..." rose said reconizing a few of the faces on the trucks
"Whatever. We can discuss logic when this is all over." Bahir said as he approached the rubble, keeping his Identification at hand in case they'd start asking questions.
rose stayed behind him as she saw most of the fire was out and now they were just finishing up the fires around it, but no one was looking for survivers under the rubble
"Hey." Bahir said, approaching the Lead Firefighter. "Private Detective Bahir Cole. I've been asked to investigate this incident. Could we get access to the scene?"
he turns around "ya sure, nothing but rubble left tho" he says while meeting eyes with rose before running off to help with the other fires
rose gulped a bit "i know that voice..." she said with a hint of fear
"Just stay close." Bahir said as he made his way to the rubble.
rose quickly followed behind not staying more then 5 feet away from him as she scaned around the rubble "what are.. we looking for besides people that will see you and me for capture"
"Clues about what is going on. You said this was because we were on to them, right?" Bahir said, kneeling down and looking for things. "Maybe something survived."
"then you should start over there where the rubble dips down... all of my family's coworkers.. worked with underground labs to keep there homes safe for police searches" rose said pointing over to where it looked like the ground collapsed into a sinkhole
"Makes even less sense to blow things up..." Bahir muttered to himself, heading to where she pointed. He touched the ground carefully, trying to gage the temperature.
the ground here felt allot hotter like the fire was still burning but no flames or smoke could be seen "but most likely.. this was where the bomb was placed to have the best chance to destroy any evedince.." rose said as she saw a dull shine of metal as a hard drive from a computer stuck up from the rubble
"What's the ground here made of? Metal?" Bahir asked, taking his hand off before also spotting what Rose spotted. "Hello." He said, approaching it and picking it up.
"i couldn't tell you.. but.. that might be the evidence you been looking for... if anythings left on it" rose said as when picked up it looked a little worse for wear but not bent side ways
"If it still works." Bahir said, quietly pocketing it. He wasn't one to steal evidence, but in this case, it seemed needed. "We need a decent computer to run it."
"well i don't really have an idea for where to find one" rose admited as she didn't even see police on the scene
"I got one at home." Bahir said. "THis one seems a bit old, but I think I should make it work."
"hopefully its not encryped" rose commented as she noticed a few eyes watching them "we... should get moving"
"Oh, I have some ways of dealing with that." Bahir said, before getting up and leaving, waving the Head Fireman a final goodbye. "Nothing I could use. Good luck cleaning it up."
the one that let us in watches as we leave
"to many eyes.... that arn't friendtly" rose said as they got away from them
"I live just a few blocks away, don't worry." Bahir said.
rose was glad when they were out of sight of the fire department as she let out a sigh of relief and her body relaxed a bit
"We're almost at my home." Bahir said as they walked through one of the quieter streets of the city.
"why.. is it so quiet around here" rose asked as she looked around even this late at night animals would be around and making some noise
"This used to be a Vamp Street." Bahir said. "And even at night, they weren't the most noisy people around." With that he walked into an appartment complex. "I live on the second floor."
"oh.. that explains the smells" rose said quickly looking behind them before entering the building and closing the door behind her "i didn't see anyone behind us"
"That's good." Bahir said, opening the door to his rather small appartment. "Welcome to my palace. Such as it is." He joked.
"its nice and cozy i think" rose said smiling as she looked around as she enjoyed this escape from her family hoping it wouldn't end here
"Thanks." Bahir said, heading to the living room and putting the Drive on the table. "Hold on, I'm going to get some stuff."
"okay" rose said as she walked over and looked out a window out into the street
"okay" rose said as she walked over and looked out a window out into the street watching a light flicker "im glad you were able to keep the scent out..."
"What scent?" Bahir asked, coming back with an old-fashioned laptop. "Uhm... you want a drink or something?" He asked. Bahir didn't exactly have experience with guests.
"some water would be fine... and the scent left after a vampire feeds... its kinda hard to keep out of a home" rose said looking at the old laptop
Bahir shrugged. "Never bothered me." He said, heading to the kitchen and coming back with a glass of water.
"well i can tell you that you kept it out of your home and its a good change" rose said as she starts to drink the water and walks over to the laptop
"'Kay..." Bahir said, not really knowing what to say to such a thing, before taking place in front of the laptop and booting it up.
"sorry i know i sound a bit weird.. but after being changed and being in a house of death.. the smell of blood kinda bothers me.. and what how are you going to pull the data off with that laptop" rose asked taking a seat
"Well, if it's not locked behind a password, I can open the maps on it in a window..." Bahir said, trying just that.
the files all show up as encrypted exept one showing the map of the city with dots showing where each expotion happened drawing a pentagram when you connect them all "that sounds a little to easy don't you think?" rose said not able to see the screen at this angle
"It's always worth a shot. Anyway, this looks like I could use a lifeline." Bahir said, taking his phone and calling someone.
"that is very true" rose said turning her head back to the window seeing the reflection of the moon on the window
"Yo, Fubuki. I need a favor." Bahir told whoever was on the other line. "We've got this drive we want to get into." A silence... "Alright. So how fast can you get here?.... Thank you, you're a lifesaver." With that he hung up.
"i might be.. a bit to new at this to understand" rose said turning back "but.. don't you think it was.. a little to easy to get this out of the crime scene"
"Perhaps... But if we were to ask around why... we'd pretty much be incriminating ourselves." Bahir said.
"yes.. but its almost like.. well i hate to say it.. but they wanted us to find that drive" rose said slowly looking at it
"Whatever's on there can't hurt us. And if it can..."
The doorbell rang.
"We've got an expert." He said, heading to the door. "Fubuki, my man." He said to who stood there. A tall, thin, Japanese man with all black clothes, long, sleek black hair and wrap-around sunglasses on. He carried a bag over his shoulder.
"Where's the drive?" Fubuki simply asked as he entered. "And who's that?"
"My latest client."
"She's young."
"It's a long story."
"I don't care."
rose stared quietly at the new man that entered into the room and was a little confused when she was called the latest client, but the drive was bothering her. if these people were like here father there should have been a dozen traps in there way, it felt to sloppy
((Huh... I could've sworn I replied.... My bad.))
"Pleased to meet you, too." Fubuki said to Rose, before looking at the drive and taking out his own laptop. Sleek and black, covered with magical symbols. "Whatever. I'm here for the Drive."
(all good it happened to me once as well its weird)
"its nice to meet you fubuki" rose said as she tried to shake that feeling from the back of her mind
"Pleasure." Fubuki said, not taking his eyes off his laptop as he attempted to access the files on the drive.
"Don't mind him. His type of people aren't exactly social." Bahir tried.
"its okay... should we get some rest.. we have been going at it for some time" rose said slowly rubbing her eyes
"You go ahead and get some sleep. The bedroom's over there." Bahir pointed. "I'm going to be a gracious host and keep Fubuki company."
"just be careful with it... this all seamed far to easy" rose said as she got up and walked towards the door he pointed out
"We'll be fine." Bahir said. "Fubuki knows his stuff. Remind me to tell you what he once did to the Ministry of Defence's Home Page."
"okay.. ill put my trust in you two" rose said before going into the room
the files all start to open up one by one but each seam to be a garbled mess, or parts of a larger file
"Thanks. Appreciate the confidence." Bahir said, before taking a seat next to Fubuki.
"Psssht. Dividing up your files to hide what's on it? Child's play." Fubuki said. "That said, it will take a while to combine them in anything that makes sense...."
"I'm trusting you here. Never was one for computers." Bahir said.
each file starts to form together in a manifest of super natruals that have been used in experiments as well as a second set of names connected to each person, at the very end roses name is to the right of three letters 'AOD' and alex's name is crossed off without a name beside it. a little google searching finds each name to be a renound scientist or celeb that have been doing strange things in movies but none have any home address or any ideas where they live
"No way..." Bahir muttered, a theory forming in his head. "That's sick!"
"Easy there, speedster." Fubuki said. "Don't let your mind get in the way of the facts." With that, Fubuki accessed another search engine. "Time to get into the Deep Web." He said. "If it doesn't appear on here, then they don't exist."
each one is followed back to one of the 5 buildings that were destroyed earlier that night as well as a back up location but its not listed here, the traces of the file being yanked from the web can be seen but not the ability to recover it. also another hit from my last name as a safe haven for supers on the run but not address just 'if you are in need the foxs tails will find you'
"Fox tails?" Bahir asked, looking at Fubuki. "Do you...?"
"Don't look at me. They always keep me out of the loop with these things." Fubuki said, crossing his arms. "And then wonder why I keep to myself."
"Anyway, that looks like her name. Maybe she knows something." Bahir said, knocking on the bedroom door.
rose poked her head out rubbing her eyes "yes?" what is it
"We found some things. And... your name popped up." Bahir said. "Do you know anything about something called the 'Fox Tails'?" He asked.
"thats my sisters riddle if i ever saw one... and what do you mean popped up" rose asked confused as she stepped out again
"Well, your last name anyway." Bahir said, pointing at it. "It's connected to a safehouse."
"ya thats my sister.. its good to know shes alright... " rose said smiling a bit at seeing the riddle
"Good. So. Do you have any idea what it means?" Bahir asked Rose. "Fox tails..."
"My first guess would be there's Kitsunes involved." Fubuki piped up.
"not involved she is one.. but theres a problem" rose said bitting her lip "the process went wrong.. and came with a curse she never told my parents"
"What sort of curse?" Bahir asked.
"Someone grabbed one of her tails?" Fubuki asked. "That usually gets them angry enough to curse someone."
"no any guy unmarried that lays eyes on her will lose there soul and become endlessly attracted to her" rose said looking down as she remembered her boyfriend at the time "if shes doing this.. its threw another person.. its really dangerous for her to interact with any guy"
"Or that." Fubuki said, shrugging.
"What if the guy's not into girls?" Bahir asked, making Fubuki groan. "What? That's one of those things that always nagged me about these.... seduction-type powers. Curses. Whatever you want to call it."
"im not sure, and i don't think she would want to test it.. its why she ran when she did she already lost one person to this curse she didn't want to cause more... im still angry at her for it.. she was the one thing standing between me and my parents exparemnting on me and she just left" rose said breathing out as she walked over to the window
"Well... If these files are anything to go by... She's a lead in what is going on." Bahir said.
"anything online besides that would lead my parents right to her... and i do not want to find her.. she abandoned me" rose said her voice going a bit distorted as she grabed her elbo a bit trying to calm herself down
"We're not talking on-line." Fubuki said. "And Bahir can always go on his own. He doesn't have any family bagage. Or has the common sense to not have it interfere when lives are at stake."
"Rich, coming from you."
"No lives at stake with that."
"that might have to wait guys" rose said looking down from the window seeing 3 black cars pull up in front of the building
"It at least means we're on the right track." Fubuki said, packing in his laptop.
"You staying around for when the fun begins?" Bahir asked.
"You know me, always down to chill." Fubuki joked.
"we have to be careful each of them got powers from one of the experiments.." rose said before she saw them lighting the ends of bottles "or they are just going to burn us out"
"Molotov Cocktails? Cute." Fubuki said, a small flurry of snow appearing in his hand.
"Not in here! At least get out of the building." Bahir said, heading for the door.
"this.. feels wrong.. if they wanted to set fire to the place.. they have powers" rose said then looked at the snow appearing
"Let's ponder on that once we're safe, alright?" Bahir said, still at the door. "And no snow indoors! That's how you ruined my last appartment."
"last.. " rose asked quickly following him
"Frosty over here doesn't respect private property." Bahir said as he ran off. Fubuki followed, but it looked more like he was floating inches above the ground.
"You rent."
"Shut up!"
the sound of fires and smoke can be seen outside the building
rose runs quickly behind them "why are they using fire..."
"You tell us." Fubuki said, heading in front of them and letting out a stream of cold to put out the fires.
"it makes no sense unless one of us was weak to it.. but im not feeling it at all and they didn't know about fubuki helping us..." rose said confused now just seeing black smoke from outside as they moved
"Feeling.... what at all?" Fubuki asked, frowning.
"I think you can cut that act by now, Fuubs." Bahir said.
"That was terrible."
"at least they arn't starting more fires... ether because they can't or they think more people are in here" rose said looking back towards where they started
"It's an appartment building, OF COURSE more people are in there!" Bahir said, realizing something. "I'm going to call the Firefighters.... On a payroll or not, they're not going to let innocent people burn."
"true.. it can't hurt" rose admitted as she saw the other doors still pondering why they used fire
"Well, at least that's settled. Fubuki, could you...?" Bahir asked, but Fubuki already had his hands up in the air, a light flurry making its way into the building to stop some of the fire from spreading. "Thanks. I owe you one."
"By this point, you owe me at least twelve." Fubuki answered. "Where do you plan to go from here?"
"hes got a point.. are we going to go" rose asks smiling a bit at the snow fall
"You're not going to like this... but I think searching out your sister might be a good course of action." Bahir said.
"my sister.. are you kidding me if i even see her i can't promise you i won't take out all this pain i went threw on her" rose said as the air around her started to darken
Bahir sighed and held his head.
"You want to get to the bottom of this or not?" He asked. "I'm sorry for what happened to you, but sometimes you have to set your feelings aside to get somewhere."
"Or you could just go away and leave it to the adults in the room." Fubuki said.
"what did you just call me" rose said her voice darkening as the wall beside her started to give towards her hand as dark orbs start to flow towards her hand
"I call things like I see them. And currently I see a child putting her own needs in front of others." Fubuki said, not intimidated.
"Uhm... Guys... This is really not the time..." Bahir tried, not liking where this was going.
"my own needs... tell that to my sister who LEFT ME TO BE EXPAMEN.." rose was cut off as she started to cough the form in her hand disapating fast leaving small holes in the walls as she collapsed to her knees
"Christ! Are you okay?!" Bahir said, kneeling next to her.
"You're not the only one go get hurt in your life." Fubuki softly said. "Don't let innocents suffer for it."
rose coughed a bit more then slowly stopped "y...ya im fine... my head just hurts a bit.... what is in that smoke... im okay now.." she said as she slowly started to get back onto her feet "f..fine.. ill help you find my sister but i will not talk or go to her"
Fubuki opened his mouth, but Bahir was quicker.
"Fair enough!" He said a bit louder then usual. "Let's just do that and put this behind us, 'kay? You two have plenty of time to discuss things once this is all taken care of."
"okay... lets get out of here then.. i know a few places she could mean by her riddle" rose said as she started to walk ahead of them and opened a window to a fire escape and started to climb out
"Good. Good." Bahir said, glad that the situation had coolled off for now as he followed. "You gonna stay for the ride, Fubuki?" He asked.
"At this point I get the feeling I need to." He said. "Someone has to keep your human behind safe."
"Hey, I can handle myself." Bahir answered, somewhat insulted.
"Sure."
rose jumped out from the little landing using the railing to slow her down a bit but landed without problem looking up at them wondering what they were talking about but also what was coming over her, she had started to black out just then and that worried her a little
"... After you." Bahir said, looking at the jump.
"I'm not going to catch you." Fubuki said, before hovering down slowly.
"I know, but maybe a little bed of snow?" Bahir asked.
"Just jump. At worst, you'll snap your ankle." Fubuki called.
"Easy for you to say..." Bahir said, before taking a deep breath and jumping. He landed.... alright. "Ow!"
rose couldn't help but chuckle a bit "there was a ladder you know" she almost forgot already that she had nearly blacked out
"I know." Fubuki said, cracking a rare smile.
"I didn't. Thanks for the warning, shades-wearing popsicle." Bahir said, getting up, groaning and rubbing his back. "The hospital bill after this adventure is yours."
rose couldn't help but giggle at this interaction as she started to remember something she started to rub her head a bit above the temple "the few spots i know of that she would start this goose chance is the park she took me to when we were young and... well the fox tail bar she started to frequent after she found out what my parents were up to"
"Let's start at the bar." Bahir said. "Even if it's wrong, I need a drink."
"after that fall hehe ya definitely its on the far side of town... she wanted to be as far away from my parents as she could" rose said as she started to walk down the back ally away from the main road as she slowly stopped rubbing her head "she took me there a few times... guess its only fitting she became how she did"
"I... I'm keeping from judging until I know more." Bahir said, following. Fubuki was not far behind.
"no no im not saying she was easy or anything just she liked foxes" rose quickly corrected herself
"I wasn't saying that either. Just that I like to meet people before I judge them." Bahir said. "Especially those of the supernatural kind. Superstition often gets in the way of getting to know them with average people."
"well if you meet her you can ask her" rose said as the fox tail bar comes into view
its a run down bar with a neon sign of a fox waving its tail left to right in a animation.
"' Kay...." Bahir said, not really getting where she was coming from. Besides questions about what was going on, Bahir didn't really care about her sister. "Anyway, here we are." He said, entering the bar.
rose followed after but as soon as she entered she started to rub the front of her head
there were quite a few different people around the bar most passed out and the bar keep cleaning out a glass
"Uhm, is this a convenient time?" Bahir asked the Barkeep, flashing his ID. "I'm a Private Investigator and I might have some questions."
the bar keep just nods as he starts cleaning another
"im going to go sit down..." rose said as she took a seat at one of the corner boths rubbing her head a bit
"Well... first things first... what happened here? Rough night?" Bahir asked as Fubuki simply leaned against the wall.
"nope just past happy hour with someone paying for everyones drinks, we don't disturb the drunken sleepers.. doesn't end well most times" keven the bar keep says as he looks at bahir "you two want anything or just here to ask questions"
as rose laid her head down a shadow moves into a far booth from where she had sat down
"Real professional." Fubuki said as Bahir shot him a glare.
"Just here to ask some questions. We're here to search for someone." He told the Barkeep.
"for someone? who might you be looking for" keven asked raising an eyebrow as he started to clean the table in front of him
"We're looking for a woman named...." Bahir said, before turning to Rose. "What was your sister's name again?" He turned back. "And the term 'Fox Tail' popped up."
"ah i know who your talking about.. she use to be a regular but i haven't seen her in some time. sill have her booth reserved for when ever she needed to come by" keven pointed to the far booth from where rose was now laying with her head against the table not talking but rubbing her head
"Do you have any idea where she might have gone?" Bahir asked.
"oh she will come back she always does" keven said before going back to cleaning the glasses as a voice calls out quietly
"That's nice, but this is sort of urgent..." Bahir said, before he heard a voice. "Did you hear that?"
a figure is leaning a bit out of the booth the bar tender had pointed to
Seeing how there were more people around, Bahir looked, but kept standing with the barkeep.
"Do you have an adress, maybe?" He tried as there was no answer.
"i don't keep addresses of people in here" keven said as he started to clean another glass "maybe ask some of the people waking up they might know more"
"Alright, thank you for your time." Bahir said, smiling before heading to Rose in the booth and sitting down opposite her.
bahir feels a light tap on his shoulder as a hooded women stands next to the booth
"Ehm. Hi." He said, turning around. "Can I... help you?"
"i see your following my trail and brought my sister along with ya" she said as she took a seat next to rose gently laying her down on her side
"I take it you're the one we're looking for, then?" Bahir asked.
"yep, and it seams you got my sister in a bit of danger" she said patting roses head softly
"Didn't mean to. My apologies. It's just... there's something going on... and it needs to be stopped." Bahir said.
"it will be soon. the supply of what they want is dry and soon they will start to pray on each other and who they can find" she said turning to look him in the eyes
"I don't think it's healthy to just... wait and see. Especially since they don't appear to care for whoever gets caught in the crossfire." Bahir said. "They need to be stopped."
"you may be right, but in trying to stop them you may give them the foot hold they need to survive this in fighting" she said as two large whisky filled glasses as she starts to drink from one "you want me to tell you where you can find them even tho when i gave you the pictures not a day ago all you were worried about was your friend in the pictures that i photo shopped in"
"He's a friend. OF COURSE I'm worried." Bahir said, getting angry. "You're one of those people that's going to blast me for that, aren't you? That job's already taken." He said, pointing to Fubuki.
"Don't compare me to those people. I actually have standards." Fubuki answered, crossing his arms.
"no without that you wouldn't have started on the trail and got my sister out of there before she was killed" she said not fluctuating at the anger in his voice
"Whatever the case, I am NOT just going to sit back and watch them tear each other and whoever gets in the way apart." Bahir said. "I'm here to put a stop to it as soon as I can."
"they are like a hydra.. cut one head off and two take its place.. but ill give you locations if you want them to there safe houses that they might go to while preparing for this war" she said patting roses head again and moving a bit of her hair out of her face "frankly im suprised she even helped you"
"You DO know the Hydra eventually got defeated by someone searing the holes shut before those other heads could grow, right?" Bahir said, rolling his eyes. "If you want to make something sound threatening, don't compare it to a Monster that got stomped by someone being clever." He sighed. "I'm glad that she did. For all her faults... she seems to want the best."
"her faults are not all her own.. what they put in her causes many of her problems which you nearly came into contact with because of someone pushing a few to many buttons" she said looking at the man leaning against the wall
"I still stand by them." Fubuki simply said. "Save me the pity party. She's not the only one who suffered."
"Aaaanyway." Bahir said. "If you give use those locations, that would be a great help."
she pulled out the map you saw on the website "they have to stay in this formation always or else they can't do there exparmints, so if you want to save lives and not give them a foot hold, take out one location and they will have to keep moving and slowly waste all there supplys till they move into the wilds where they will not indanger anyone besides themselfs" she circled 5 wearhouse districts "i can't give you pinpoint spots but i know they will move to these spots"
"Now this is something we can use. Awesome, thanks!" Bahir said, taking the map.
"i only am doing this because it will lead to my sister being finaly free of the second side of her that has appeared.. so please forgive her rudness" she said as she finished off her drink
"Figures. Only one's own matter, huh?" Fubuki muttered.
"I'll try my best." Bahir said.
"when the other is nothing but an implant of pure hatred and anger of a god... then yes the one that is slowly dying does only matter to me" she said as she got up
"I think he was talking more about the 'Screw all the other innocent people getting hurt by this, she's all that matters' sort of vibe of what you said." Bahir said. "Kind of a sore spot with him. For some good reasons."
"look im doing what i can to save who i can, you can cut that **** out of there... iv been doing this for the past 5 years getting people to saftey while my parents did this to her, so yes right now shes at the top of the food chain to me" she said then letting out a deep breath "just... don't let her lose control and we all will be good and survive to see my parents lifes work implode"
"Okay. Okay. Fine. I'm sorry." Bahir said, throwing up his arms defensively. These people did not take criticism well. "In any case, thanks for your help. I think we can deal from here." With that he grabbed his own glass of Whiskey. "Something tells me I'm going to need this..." He muttered, drinking it.
"your welcome.. by the way my name is lilly" she said as she set her glass down and got out of the both
as bahir drinks it he finds it has no kick just the flavor without any of the buzz you would expect
"Greetings, Lilly." Bahir said, before looking at his drinks. "This is alcohol free, isn't it?" He asked, somewhat dissapointed.
"nope, you see everything you see is all in your minds once you walked threw the doorway... its only safe with her so she doesn't go try and attack me" she said sighing softly "its hard to be forced to stay away from the one thing that keeps you grounded"
"So you drugged me. That's.... much worse." Bahir said, getting a bit panicky now. He should not have accepted that drink.
"Fubuki...?" He said, slowly turning to his friend.
"nope just a little mind trick. take care of my sister and you won't see the real me" lilly said as the hole bar started to fade till where they were sitting is the only thing standing of what looks like a burnt down building. probably happened months ago
rose slowly started to sit up growning
"That's even worse...." Bahir said, sitting back, defeated and holding his head in both hands. He did NOT like people messing with his head. Too many memories of abuse.... "Did she get you too?" He asked Fubuki.
"Would it make you feel better if I say 'yes'?" Fubuki answered.
"Sorta."
"Then, yes."
rose rubbed her head and slowly looked around "whats going on.... what happened to the bar" she asked confused
"Your sister is into altering peoples' minds without permission." Fubuki said, as Bahir still seemed somewhat despondent. "There never was a bar."
"wha? mind games? wait she was here" rose said shocked looking around
"Wouldn't be surprised if this was all a game to her." Bahir muttered. "But yeah, she was here. Gave us some adresses we can inspect."
rose let out a deep breath "its best that way.. i rather not see her so lets get out of here" she said as she got up slowly
Bahir frowned. Having his mind altered was far from 'Best this way', but he decided to let it slide. It was made pretty clear that his mental safety was pretty low on the priorities list.
"Let's just go to the adresses given." He said, sounding very tired.
"okay, best to get away from this place fast ether way" rose said as she looked at the map herself
"Well then, let's get going. You coming, Fubuki?" Bahir called, walking off. Fubuki silently followed.
"are you okay tho? you look a bit shooken up" rose asked as they walked
"I just... I don't like my mind getting altered. And to do it without my permission..." Bahir said, holding his head. "Just... to spring that on someone... Not cool."
"true.. but what better way to hide in plane sight i guess" rose said "she probably didn't mean to do harm"
"Give me a heads up? I would've had a lot less issue if she'd tell me that there would be some sort of illusion." Bahir said.
"its new for me that she could do that.. probably not her powers but someone elses... plus im one of the few people that know that she went there.. and its kinda to obvious to be an actual clue that my parents wouldn't have checked" rose said looking up "so i don't think she had a chance to ask"
"I know. I know. I should stop whining and get on with it." Bahir conceded. "Let's just... keep moving."
"You sure you don't need a break?" Fubuki asked, sounding unusually worried.
"I'm fine. I'm fine. Just... I have to... adjust my expectations a bit. Supernatural beings have different morals then humans." He managed a sad smile. "That's life, I guess."
"the shift happens when your getting hunted i guess" rose said sighing a bit
"Not always." Fubuki said, crossing his arms.
"Guys... this is the last thing we need." Bahir said, feeling that this would escalate again.
"okay, but all i was saying is.. some resort to different methods" rose said as the approached an old warehouse that was being renovated by the looks of things
"And some might have issues with those methods." Bahir said. "Let's just go, alright? You've made it quite clear you're quite set in your viewpoints, so let's just... check this warehouse out." He said, looking at a new warehouse. "Fubuki, you got anything on this?"
"Not yet." Fubuki said, taking out this phone. "Give me a sec."
they soon come up a large warehouse on a dock with a few people walking the outside walls
"what do you want to know about this place anyways" rose asked
"Previous owners, even if they are dummy companies and what they're supposedly storing there. If we're really lucky, some blueprints or the like. It helps to go in informed." Fubuki said, not looking up from his phone.
the blue prints come up showing that its an old building but it has a very old date
"blueprints might not help.. i don't think they would want people to be able to find there hidden stuff by looking things up" rose said quietly
(sorry i have been busy lately and haven't been able to get on that often
((Hey, no worries))
"That's where our detective comes in." Fubuki said. "If we can find inconsistencies of the actual building with the blueprint, it's easier to find, say, secret areas." Fubuki said, showing the blueprint to the others. "But that does mean we need to get closer."
