I TOTALLY have the third *Stella*, It's called Eclipse. It came out here August 7th and I finished it 24 hours later. I'm re-reading it, naturally. Did you like New Moon? if you did you'll like this one, it expands a LOT on that part of the plot line. Btw- Edward's perfect. *starry eyes*

Posted by: melgirl1778 May 13 2008, 9:52 PM

Am i the only one that hates the books? Im reading them but i find them really stupid and inconsistant.

Posted by: humbu111 May 13 2008, 9:56 PM

Posted by: Riliana May 30 2008, 4:50 AM

You probably are Melgirl...
Yeah, Midnight Sun, but it won't come out yet. I met the author as well.

Posted by: musaenchantixthebest May 30 2008, 10:43 PM

you met the author! lucky! i love the book. i can't wait for breaking dawn.
midnight sun is the name of the 5th book?

Posted by: AnnieBelle May 31 2008, 7:45 PM

Actually, I tried reading Twilight...I didn't get too far before I decided it was getting boring and set it down. I guess I'll try starting it again...

Posted by: Another Morning May 31 2008, 8:07 PM

I read Twilight, but I haven't gotten ahold of the other books yet. I found it unintentionally hilarious at times, but I will admit that it was a really good book. :D Even if my friends and I mock Edward's ANGST (;-;) all the time XD

Posted by: P-girl May 31 2008, 8:23 PM

Meh.... I haven't read it, but I don't know if I want to.... I heard they break the all-important, almost sacred (At least to me) 'Vampires die in the sunlight'-rule. For a classic horror-fan like me, that works like (pardon the expression) garlic on a vampire. (Like; *Hiss* keep it away!)

Posted by: Another Morning May 31 2008, 9:05 PM

That's also true. >___> I could hardly consider what the Cullens were to be "vampires."

So many movies/books/shows/etc. today portray vampires as these tragic, romantic figures that act all cold and hard but really are guilty and depressed and just want to be loved. e___e I rather prefer the oldschool, souless undead that didn't angst every time they killed somebody and were actually disliked by people for being the monsters they were rather than being turned into tragic anti-heros.

Posted by: P-girl May 31 2008, 9:38 PM

Same here, what happened to the blood-thirsty-predator-in-a-handsome-package kind of vampire?

Posted by: melgirl1778 Jun 6 2008, 6:42 PM

they are still blood thirsty, just have know weaknesses and are perfect! i think i just was to go and kill all the characters, and why does the main guy in all fantasies named edward?

And of coarse the jake thing, bella loves him, she just loves edward more... grrr.

ok, thats my ramblings

Posted by: P-girl Jun 9 2008, 5:36 PM

Sounds to teeny and modern and.... emo for me (Sorry Emo people, but I'm all about optimism and the brightness of life!). I'm more into Victorian age horror (Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde..... the real classics) and Stephen King.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 10 2008, 12:36 PM

((and R.L. STEIN!!!!! *Chirp Chirp* "What...Monster Blood was awesome!!!" *cough* anyway. I've never read the books, but my sister likes them. I just thought you girls should know that they are making a movie, and they already have an official trailer out for it.))

Posted by: melgirl1778 Jun 10 2008, 11:48 PM

yea, i saw it. should be interesting... but in my opion, it cant be worse then the book. (And i relize i am in the minority)

Posted by: P-girl Jun 11 2008, 8:15 AM

Trust me, you aren't, a lot of people on livejournal communities I'm at also think the books are bad. (I still don't count myself in, I haven't read them, and that doesn't really give me the right to say it's bad or not. But I HAVE the right to say that I don't like the premise, and therefore don't want to read them.)

Y'know which are cool vampires? The ones from Vampire: the masquerade. Sure, they're 'modern', but as far as I know, they're more along the 'classic'-line then anything else. (I also like the fact that there are 'clans', each with their own philosophy, mindset, strengths and weaknesses)

Posted by: Ranma Jun 12 2008, 12:19 AM

Alucard is the coolest vampire ever. If you have another opinion it doesn't count. lol.

Posted by: Asher Omega Jun 12 2008, 5:42 AM

Which Alucard are we talking about? because there is this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alucard_%28Castlevania%29 and then there's this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alucard_%28Hellsing%29. one is, excuse the language, a badass and Vlad Tepes, and the other is well something. oh the son of Dracula. so you have to specify which one you're referring too.

Posted by: Riiana Jul 13 2008, 12:57 PM

I LOVE THEM!
I havnt read the 1st or the 2nd but ive read the END of the 3rd one. Lol don't worry I'm going to get all three of them, cause I read the third off my friend. The movie and the 4th book are coming out this year, right? Ive seen the preview of the Movie , looks cool icon_biggrin.gif
And theres going to be a 5th one? Wow.
Im actually obsessed with the books, they are my FAVOURITE books ive ever read. Trust me, thats a lot of books icon_smile.gif
When I say obsessed, I mean obsessed. I had to go and do research on how the Author got the idea's for the book. Lol she got them in her dreams. Seems pretty cool though, imagine getting ideas in your dreams...I don't know why but that happens a lot now...icon_neutral.gif
ANYHOO As I was saying I am completely in love with the books.
Cheerio icon_biggrin.gif

Posted by: CloudWriter Oct 12 2008, 10:32 PM

I, for one, love what Stephenie Meyer did with the vampires. Too much stuff about vampires comes from Hollywood (*grumbling* Stupid "vampires are evil" directors.......didn't even consider that vampires have other sides to them....*ungrumble*)
you can read the first 12 chapters or so of Midnight Sun on Stephenie Meyer's website. Man, does Edward's point of view make it funny..... icon_biggrin.gif
Honestly, I hadn't liked the idea of Twilight at first. I had been arguing with my best friend about which was better, Twilight or Harry Potter (I was mad at the twilight movie 'cause it was part of the reason why the harry potter 6 movie was moved, other that the writers' strike. warner bros. doesn't think we can handle having 2 major movies out at once). So, to make our decision fair (Maddie had never read Harry Potter and I had never read Twilight, which made our decision about which series was better uninformed), we swapped books. I read twilight, she read Harry Potter. I was so humilated on Monday when I got back to school, because I had to admit defeat- Twilight trumps Harry Potter. icon_sad.gif

*Disgruntled vampire fan*

Vampires are supposed to be evil! And not just because of Hollywood or even Bram Stoker (The original Author who penned down 'Dracula') said so. It has been part of folklore from ancient times. Vampires are basically beasts that look human. And that's the reason I don't like these 'New' vampires where Twilight seems to be from.
Vampires don't have souls. They're cursed to roam the earth forever as beasts, pretending to be human.
Give me an old-fashioned, Victorian Vampire any time of the day, over those New-Age hippies.
I like Vampires SC4's Raphael. Sure, he LOOKS like a Victorian-styled Lord, and acts like one on the surface, but inside, he's a savage beast, As vampires are supposed to be!.

[/rant]

Posted by: MorriganAensland Oct 12 2008, 10:54 PM

Raphael was an AWESOME vampire. He tries to be the noble gentleman on the golden pedestal, and he falls. Hard. The same could be said for Griffith from Berserk, except he becomes a demon rather than a vampire.

Vampires are meant to prey off of people's fears of becoming one. Zombies and werewolves have the blessing they can't control themselves and have no recollection of their crimes. Vampires do, and they can't help it.

So you either embrace it or you become a disillusioned idealist who can't accomplish much of anything.

I love Dio Brando in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, well, him and Cars, because they're just so evil. Dio is shown to respect pretty much only people that are completely loyal to him, which translates into him being a smart villain. He never screws over anyone he has use for, and when he doesn't have any use for you any more, he won't kill you unless he gets in your way.

But if you're in the way of him achieving his goals, he will make your life a living hell. And that's if doesn't want to simply kill you in a way you can't stop, such as freezing time and punching a hole through your body.

I mean, I like him, but it's a case of profound respect for the man, not blind fangirlism. He's never glorified in the story, nor should he be.

Well, except for the infamous steamroller sequence. But that's just awesome.

Posted by: PinkSugar Oct 18 2008, 6:53 AM

I have the book, and I started trying to read it this time last year. I'm still at the end of Chapter two (or beginning of Chapter three, I don't remember.) So many of my friends are in love with the series, but I can't bring myself to like them. I tried different techniques, but I find Bella and Edward both very, very annoying, and the side characters have yet to do anything for me.

... Granted, I'm still at the very beginning.

I read through a "summary" on livejournal about the books. I think I can understand the general jist of what was going on.

And, I can understand why people like them. Everyone has their own tastes. My taste is simply: I hated it. I may eventually try to read it again to see if my opinion has changed. I keep hoping that it will.

Posted by: Asher Omega Oct 18 2008, 8:45 AM

Don't change your opinion. if you hate the books, then its fine. if it changes over the course of the book then that's different. when I read (and believe me I read a lot) if I read a book cover to cover and I still hate it, I will never read it again. and if its part of a series I will never read any of the sequels. if I do find the book interesting by the end I will continue. and so far its a good policy. at least for me it is.

I've also encountered this quandary before. most of my high school friend knew I watched anime, so they heavily suggested kill bill. I watched both movies and to this day I STILL hate them with a passion. people thought I just liked the art style. not quite. I like Plot, and Kill Bill has a bare minimum (Fighting game level/Atari 2600 level). I felt that I had wasted four hours of my life on something that I could have just watched on the normal TV.

back to topic. I've found that Masquerade does have a good system for Vampires. I also (I've suggested it about four times, I think) suggest the Dresden books. its got about three different types, each of which follow certain trends of the vampires. I won't spoil what, but its definitely a good read.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 18 2008, 9:44 AM

Off topic: I see what you mean. I get the same thing with Mecha anime (You like Transformers, therefore you must love Mechas!) Not really..... I like Transformers because they're not only giant and awesomely designed robots, but also because they're sentient beings, with their own personalities, history, friendships and animosities. Most Mecha anime I've seen (I'm not an expert) the Mechas are just huge pieces of armor, devoid of personality safe that of their pilots, this, for me, kind of takes away the magic Transformers have.

On Topic: I think Thor Axegrinder's quote about Twilight vampires tells it all (For me, at least): 'Take away their weakness to light and you take away the most powerful symbolism of vampires being damned creatures. Take away their need to feed on human blood and you take away the creepy part of their nature that makes their physical beauty seem like such a perversion.'

Quote taken from this article: http://www.anti-shurtugal.com/wordpress/?p=53

Posted by: PinkSugar Oct 19 2008, 11:55 PM

Omega: Well, since I'm still at the beginning of the book, I want to try to make it to a few more chapters to see if I like it. The problem is getting through those chapters. If I can't make it even then, I'll give up for good.

On a side note, I heard that vampires in this book... sparkle?

Posted by: winxclub101 Oct 20 2008, 12:42 AM

Btw, I heard on the news that thers gonna be a twighlight movie from the book coming in a month or something, unless it came out already.

Posted by: MorriganAensland Oct 20 2008, 2:39 AM

It's not out yet.

And if they do make it, one of three things will happen. First, it'll stay true to the books, and hence be loathed by everyone that realizes it's blatant wish fulfillment. Either that, or the opposite, where it tries to take intelligent liberties and bombs horribly, hated by fans of the story and casual moviegoers alike. And lastly, they do a pragmatic adaptation that makes it a decent story... in which case the casual moviegoers will probably be indifferent or might at least respect it... in which case the fans will be screaming bloody murder.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 20 2008, 5:17 AM

Well..... I think it's either nr 1 or 2 I saw a trailer....What can I say? Curious how they did the sparkling bit. Well they don't. Here we have an emo-guy who's just a bit pale. He just goes around and just walks in the sunlight (Not even SPARKLING!) like your average bloke.

Posted by: PinkSugar Oct 20 2008, 8:14 PM

Although I can safely say I won't be spending money on seeing the movie, I may tag along with one of my friends (should they pay my way) or wait until one of them buys it and lets me watch it.

I wonder if the movie adaption will be anywhere as horrible as Blood and Chocolate (which was another book I loathed, but I actually made it through that one.)

Posted by: Jahnavi Oct 21 2008, 2:25 AM

Yup, the movie's out on November 21st, or some time around that date.

Posted by: Abby Oct 27 2008, 8:20 PM

So my friend started bugging me to read this series and I finally did. I'm already halfway through Twilight after only one day of reading it, I'm hooked. Personally I like the thinking behind vampires that are good. I also like the evil ones, but I somehow love to see that every evil has some good in it, and that is one of the reasons I love this book. The other reason is that Bella is a really good character in my opinion. I am pretty sure that is what I was like (and probably still am like despite the fact I have a boyfriend now) a month ago or so. But anyways I'm totally excited to see the movie soon, and I will be buying the rest of the series once I get the money to!

Posted by: MorriganAensland Oct 27 2008, 11:11 PM

No... NO! THE VIRUS GOT ABBY TOO!

P-Girl, Pinksugar, Asher, Jahnavi... it's spreading to fast! We've gotta do damage control of something!

Posted by: Asher Omega Oct 28 2008, 2:08 AM

Uh Oh. Let loose the Moties of War.

..........

uh crap. I think I just let loose an entire battalion of the warrior caste of Moties loose. we're so dead.

(Read Niven and Pournelle's "The Mote in God's Eye" and then "The Gripping Hand")

In the words of Warhammer 40,000: Better to die a pointless, meaningless death than serve the Chaos.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 28 2008, 6:46 AM

I'm more of a 'To each his own' type of person.

Posted by: MorriganAensland Oct 28 2008, 12:36 PM

Pah. You won't be saying that when the virus comes for you and your family, P-Girl.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 28 2008, 2:41 PM

Can't we all just..... get along?

Posted by: MorriganAensland Oct 28 2008, 4:06 PM

'Course we can. I'm just acting like this due to my own, grossly immature aversion to a series I've only found out about from biased, second-hand sources rather than give it the chance it genuinely deserves.

Posted by: bloom_daphne Oct 29 2008, 12:18 AM

Heh...everyone at my school is obsessed with the series, its all they talk about, at lunch, on the bus, during class etc.
Seeing how popular it'd be I'd decided to check it out, I was beyond bored during the first chapter. Thank goodness it was an e-copy and I didn't spend $14 on it.

Posted by: Abby Oct 30 2008, 7:51 PM

The beginning is really slow, but if you give it a chance later in the book it gets good. I finished the first one in days because I was so hooked into it. I'm getting the second book this weekend to start reading it!

Posted by: Jahnavi Oct 31 2008, 4:25 AM

@ Abby: New Moon's great, I think it's my fave. in the series. (Though I only just started Breaking Dawn, so that opinion may change once I finish.)

Posted by: MorriganAensland Oct 31 2008, 4:45 AM

I've heard a lot of the series's fans have not liked Breaking Dawn.

Then again, TV Tropes is populated by a bitter and loathesome group.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 31 2008, 9:07 AM

Well.... even Anti-Shur'tugal admits they're addicting.
...
I must visit the wrong boards and forums for games/tvshows/movies/anime. TVTropes is positively.... nice compared what I've heard people say.

Posted by: Abby Nov 1 2008, 7:25 PM

I bought New Moon today so I'll be reading that one soon!

Posted by: Jahnavi Nov 1 2008, 7:29 PM

Cool. Tell us what you think of it, when you're done.

Posted by: Zhanneel Nov 6 2008, 12:33 AM

(sorry, not trying to hijack the thread or anything...) I don't read the Twilight novels since they are not my taste, but I thought I'd offer another author who may write to this generation's similar tastes. In case you guys were looking for some books to read after you finished the Twilight series.

Anyone heard of Juliet Marillier? She's an Australian author who writes historic fiction in the early AD centuries around the British Isles. The author keeps the storyline real and mystical at the same time, but still manages to put some magic into her novels. Each of books stars a budding young woman who will become the target of hardship, peril, and eventually hard-won love. The way for each girl is different and can only be won by trial and perseverance, something any teen today can come to understand. If you read her novels you will probably come to think of yourself in place of the girl in the story. The stories are written for young and old romance/fantasy addicts alike. However, the novels are mature and tend to dip into the adult side of life in many ways, but she does it tastefully. I was enthralled by all of her books. They felt very real and complex, but by the end of the books (after I had like 3 heart attacks =P) there is a lovely ending.

The (American) cover art was really beautiful too. Here's her first novel (sorry it's so big, had a hard time finding one with good resolution that was "small"):

Anyway, I hope you guys might take a look into this author. Especially if you like good romance icon_wink.gif.

(Oh, one more thing. Anyone used the google book search? It works great when you want to try out a book you're not sure you'll like. http://books.google.com/books?id=HDgHRZKlo6IC&printsec=frontcover&dq=daughter+of+the+forest#PPA1,M1 of Daughter of the Forest)

Posted by: PinkSugar Nov 6 2008, 2:47 AM

So. I said I couldn't make it through the series, but I happened to find across a great summary of the first book. Spoilers ahead for those who haven't read, and for those who have, well...

http://shinga.livejournal.com/478415.html

*WARNING: spoilers may have a SOME offensive language, but I don't think it does.*

Don't read if you liked the series and are easily offended.

Though, I showed this to a friend of mine who likes Twilight and she thought it was hilarious, too. But I know some Twilight fans could get easily provoked? Maybe?

Anyways, it saved me from wasting valuable hours of my life, unfortunately, the $14.99 was already spent. I wish I had known just how boring it was going to be before I picked it up. So many people seemed to like it, I thought I'd give it a try, but nope. I'm stil at the beginning of Chapter 3 and it's been over a year. I don't think I'll be picking it up again anytime soon.

And Zhaneel, I'll check out the book next time I'm at a bookstore to see if it looks like something I'd like. ^_^ Thanks for recommending something. I've been looking for a book that I can actually get through without slamming my head on a hard surface.

Posted by: Zhanneel Nov 6 2008, 3:06 AM

Aww, I've got similar issues with a book I'm trying to finish =P. I'm forcing myself to finish though before I start the books I really want to read. I too spent the money so I'm trying to own up to it. Bleh.

I hope you like the book (or books if you get into her stories). It's historical in a fictional way, so I hope you like realistic, serious plots. Juliet Marillier is my favorite author. But if you find you don't like her that's okay by me too. Good luck finding something =).

Posted by: Jahnavi Nov 6 2008, 11:55 AM

Cool, it sounds like the kind of book I'd like. Thanks for suggesting it. ^^

Posted by: Zhanneel Nov 6 2008, 2:40 PM

I hope you'll like it too Jahnavi =). But if not that's okay too.

@Pink Sugar: And that parody you posted is freaking hilarious. Fans and critics of the series alike have been good tempered enough to laugh. xD

Posted by: PinkSugar Nov 6 2008, 4:28 PM

I read parodies of things I like and things I don't like, too. I think it's always good to have a sense of humor about things. I mean, no one is going to like one thing 100% of the time.

That being said, with Twilight, though I really don't like it, I won't condemn anyone who does because I know what it's like to like things (Particularly Harry Potter and Tokio Hotel) that get criticized a lot but also have a lot of fans. And, I'm actually interested in seeing the movie now that I've seen more previews. A friend of mine wants me to go with her, and I figure what-the-hey. I sat through 2 hours of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 being bored, I can sit through Twilight if it ends up being meh. I wonder what the fanbase reception of the movie's going to be like.

Posted by: Asher Omega Nov 6 2008, 8:57 PM

oh probably like all fans. they'll kick and scream that the movie wasn't like the book at all. The director took too much liberties, they didn't cast the person they wanted for that character's role, the special effects were over done. just look at some of the best examples. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Fans cried out because they completely took out a good portion of the book. I while disliked that the took it out, understood why it was left out. another might be Silent Hill, I personally loved the movie, while a ex-roomie of mine, being a SH fan to the core, loathed it. his reasoning? because they didn't include the part about the devil worshipers. Hollywood, can get away with some stuff, but as soon as someone tries to put some religious stuff in the public rises up in outrage. Ex-roomie still says they could have gotten away with it.

Posted by: MorriganAensland Nov 6 2008, 9:11 PM

People always think changing an idea or plot point in a story is bad. That's not always the case.

Case in point: James Bond in Goldfinger.

The bad guy's scheme was so screwy (using a nuke to open a gate, distribute the toxins through the water supply, steal the gold) that the people at United Artists realized they had to change it. The result is such a cunning and near-flawless plan that it would've worked if Bond didn't seduce Ms. Galore, and the Bond movie nearly everyone agrees to be the holy grail amongst the franchise.

Posted by: P-girl Feb 12 2009, 1:37 PM

I don't know how well spread this news is, but.....

http://www.twilightsucks.com/

First reaction: You got dissed by Stephen King? OWNED by the MASTER!

A less fangirlish reaction;
Stephen King dissaproves of Twilight. And trust me, if someone knows about writing horror, it's King. Just read Danse Macabre, a non-fiction piece he wrote about Horror and what it's all about. For me, it's another reason NOT to read Twilight.

Posted by: MorriganAensland Feb 12 2009, 2:53 PM

Stephen King knows something about writing in general. Yeah, he's had a lot of problems himself, like addictions, but I've seen a number of the movie adaptations of his books, like Carrie (which he genuinely thinks stayed sufficiently true to the source material) and Stand By Me (not horror, but still a great movie).

And you gotta love Edward's actor. The guy shows a fangirl he's just an ordinary, mundane person (who happens to think the more militant fans should calm down) and she understands and resumes her life.

Posted by: P-girl Feb 12 2009, 2:57 PM

I greatly respect Robert Pattinson for his stance in all this. It's healthy and might help some of the more militant fans to calm down.

Posted by: MorriganAensland Feb 12 2009, 3:03 PM

Same with the girl doing Bella. They just refuse to take the series, well, seriously. There's a difference between following a series and ignoring its faults and following a series and lampooning its faults, like with those fan showings of Plan 9 from Outer Space, where you shout "Day!" or "Night!" any time the time of the day changes during the same scene.

And I was hoping to find a particular snapshot of four frames from the movie, but instead I found this.
http://bubble-gum-gir.deviantart.com/art/Twilight-Sucks-106330816
For anyone that watches Hellsing... it's probably even funnier.

Posted by: P-girl Feb 12 2009, 3:06 PM

Yay! (Even tough I don't read Twilight, I'm always oddly chipper when another famous vampire lays down the hurt on Edward)

Hmm, King spoke up? Now if Anne Rice (vampire-writer extraordinaire) were to comment on the trilogy maybe the crazed fans would actually have to listen.

Posted by: P-girl Feb 12 2009, 7:46 PM

Well, they're currently in the old-fashioned 'You're jealous of her writing/succes!'.

*Snort*

We're talking Stephen King here, probably one of the most well known horror writers, and for darn good reason. All of the books I've read of him are good. (Misery's the creepiest book I've ever read), so I don't think that argument goes up.
I'd advice them to pick up one of King's novels.

I wondering as well how Meyers reacts.... I'm going to try and trace this. *Is sucker for drama*

Hopefully fangirls won't start shipping MeyersXKing.

That would be disturbing.

Posted by: P-girl Feb 13 2009, 12:25 PM

Now there's an unholy alliance.

*Joins*
Altough for a different reason. I always like reasons with my judgement. (With some argument on the side)

i'm reading it right now and i'm on Breaking dawn stephenie meyer was suppose to make Midnight sun

Posted by: MorriganAensland May 18 2009, 12:40 AM

True, but she had a nervous breakdown since someone leaked the first 13 chapters of it.

Posted by: Meru May 18 2009, 2:52 AM

And now its up for download on her website I believe icon_razz.gif

It took me forever to read twilight. I play gaiaonline often, and when im hanging out with my friends in the rally youd see a twilight tard or 238947623958 <__< and then all they do is say 'oh edward u r sexi haf mi babiez!' 'eye lurve vampyrez!'

etc etc etc. You can probably see how annoying it could be, and how put off of the series you'd become because of these ridiculous 10 year old girls rabid 'fangirling' over it.

but by mid/late september I caved to my friends insistance that I read it, and bought the first book. Mother bought me the last three for christmas.

I didn't touch them until sometime in March after I watched the movie and wanted a better understanding of it. So I read the first one, and was disgusted with myself because I A) finished it in under two days and 2) enjoyed it sure there were parts where i was angry screaming in my head for the darn woman to cut all the unnecessary crap but...

there was also a "wtf?!?!?!?' moment sometime in the start of the second book, (you know; that 'october', 'november' etc etc all on their own pages*paper waster O:<*) and the angst... oh the angst <___<

But apparently I love angst because i love shoujo manga DX< so I got hooked even more.

needless to say; I'm interested in what they are going to keep in the last movie; and how well they portray it. though after the Harry potter movies 3+ I'm prepared for disappointment v___v

I love twilight series too much, I have read all books (5th too) cant wait for the 2nd movie

Posted by: Princess Rissa May 18 2009, 2:27 PM

bloomwinxmagic how did you read the fifth one i know you read the first thirteen chaps but did you read it ALL??

Posted by: MorriganAensland May 18 2009, 4:23 PM

Ah yes... the angst. The accursed, stupid angst.

Along with the claims they're like Romeo and Juliet. That's kinda stupid.

The whole point of R&J was that young people who think with their hearts rather than their heads when it comes to love bring only tragedy to their relationship and ruin their families and their friends.

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 4:25 PM

It's over here, with an explanation on why Stephenie Meyer doesn't continue it. All I can say to her is: stop bawling and grow a spine. It's the age of information, stuff like this happens. It's fine to be angry, but to go 'I'm not writing anymore' is just plain weak and not fair to the fans of your work.

II meant that I have read 12 chapter

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 5:36 PM

The only thing that really doesn't sit me well with this saga is the fact that how it seems (STill haven't read them. Doesn't show up in the library and I'm NOT going to buy them) to underplay it's horror-elements. I mean, from what I've heard, it's a romance story with a side-dish (Or even just a slight seasoning) of horror. Not my cup of tea.

Posted by: dittadulla May 18 2009, 5:55 PM

I've only read the first two books, but I can say about both of them, P-girl, that the 'horror' side-plot always pops up in the last pages. Maybe last three chapters {of twenty}. And then it goes back to the romance.

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 6:00 PM

Okay, thanks for clarifying. It's nothing fundamentally against the books (More about personal preferences), but if I read about vampires or other creatures of the night, I want it to be scary all the way trough.

Posted by: dittadulla May 18 2009, 6:07 PM

Yeah then Twilight I wouldn't recommend for you, it doesn't even get that scary on the highest point of scariness.

And the most mature scene in New Moon, in my opinion, was When Bella, Edward and Alice passed a crew of people in the Volturi's palace, only to hear screaming and angst when they got out of the room as the crew was for the Volturi to eat.

{Read at your own risk, but no mayor spoilers though.}

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 6:08 PM

Now THOSE are things I want in my books. That's horror. That's showing that vampires are predators, not humans. That's working with fear.

Posted by: dittadulla May 18 2009, 6:18 PM

Yes. And the best part is that Bella was frightened nearly to death right after that. xD. Not that I have anything mayor against her, but her being seriously frightened was a good change.

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 6:21 PM

As you're supposed to feel when around vampires. I'm not against humanising them, but some books go to far and forget to make them scary.

Posted by: dittadulla May 18 2009, 6:27 PM

That's exactly what Stephenie tends to do.

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 6:35 PM

I have nothing against it. A recent book I've read portrayed a Vorlak (Sub-set of vampires, basically they use their tongue (Which is hollow and has a sharp tip) instead of their teeth to bite) to be fairly human, but the book had some good moments were his inhuman sides showed (Behaving like a cornered animal, seeing humans as nothing more as animals to test on. (Yeah, he was a mad scientist.))

Posted by: MorriganAensland May 18 2009, 6:38 PM

I think we can blame the humanizing element on the fact Meyer refused to do ANY research for her series since she wanted her own brand of Vampires, not even bothering to see how others handled horror elements.

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 6:43 PM

That, I think is her biggest mistake. Vampires are so well-known and loved.... it's very obvious her standpoint of not researching them and proudly proclaiming it is the wrong one to take.

Posted by: MorriganAensland May 18 2009, 7:40 PM

Indeed.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure had two sets of crazy and unconventional vampires (Stone Mask vampires and Pillar Men vampires), but Araki *knew* horror elements and took them into account. Like many vampires, Dio was arrogant with a very powerful charisma that made men and women alike worship him profusely. He also could suck blood (admittedly with his hands) and was vulnerable to sunlight.

I mean, Araki went for the creepy factor with them and got it. He did at least some research (he prides himself on at least skimming over ideas and conventions) on them and used that as a building block. The Pillar Men vampires were more unconventional and just plain superhumans... which wasn't a problem in the end since part 2 was more an adventure and martial arts story.

Posted by: P-girl May 18 2009, 7:54 PM

I had the same with a book introducing Vorlaks (See an above post) a sub-species of vampires, who have their origin in different regions in the world then the classic vampires, altough largely similar. In the books they're portrayed as 'lower' then vampires and also a nice subversion of the fanfiction/Twilight classic of taking away vampires weaknesses, like walking around in the daylight, immunity to garlic...... y'know having all the pros and none of the cons..... Vorlaks have all the weaknesses of a vampire, and only very few of their strengths (Only eternal life, wall-crawling and an advanced physique are shown.... and largely down-played ('Show-off.....Any vampire can do that')).
......
I really like vampires.

Posted by: MorriganAensland May 18 2009, 7:58 PM

Hey, if they're executed right, they're fantastic.

I mean, there's entire RPG systems devoted to them, like Vampire: The Masquerade. You can't accomplish that if they're not a worthwhile and deep race to explore.

Posted by: winxclub-joy May 19 2009, 12:29 PM

I would like to buy the whole series of book, if I'm able to afford it T-T

That's one thing I didn't like about the series. It followed the same plot-line in every book. (Romance --> Horror/Action --> Romance.)
