I've tried Larping (not cosplaying) too. Somehow I just fail at it. It tends to become like dodgeball after a while.

Badly handled, anything can turn into dodgeball.

The secret is to just act natural and for things not to seem stilted.

Well...when everyone is taller than you and has longer weapons or projectiles >_< it became nearly impossible for me to stay "alive" for more than 3 minutes. I think I cowered behind trees ('cause we were in a park).
