Anyone have any ideas? I cooked one up last night when I was sedated in bed trying to fall asleep..

Here is my theory, with less detail and talking because I'm pressed for time right now.

The wizards were regular humans who were knights under King Arthur.
Morgana is the Lady of the Lake (the person who gives Excalibur to Arthur), and she has an evil sister, who is Morgan Le-Fay
(though Morgana is another name for Le-Fay, I'm going to keep them separate because I can't think up another evil magic user from the legends)

Le-Fay and Morgana are crosses between human and fairy, Morgana embraces magic while Le-Fay hates it and all magical beings. She manages to persuade Orgon to betray Arthur, which in turn convinces Gantlos, Anaga, and Duman (who are also knights) to join him.

LeFay transforms her soul into the black circle, and gives the knights immortality and magic in return for washing away the fairies off Earth.

So now the wizards, with the corps of LeFay (which is now the black circle) go and in a really dramatic scene with English accents, Ogron kills Arthur, most of the knights, and goes to capture the fairies.

After some time, not a lot of time, almost all the fairies are gone except for their island. Nebula devises a plan to send Morgana into the future and to have a child. Morgana gets sent to the future right before the island is captured, but the wizards are unaware of this.

They are confused as to why the circle will not destroy them all, and figures all magical beings are to blame. So, they kill them all. This explains why there are no unicorns and stuff.

Frustrated, the wizards believe that they are now cursed as the one thing they hate most; magical beings. So, they live through history and take part in a lot of historic events, basically guiding humanity into something that they see as miserable. Anagan and Duman separate from Ogron and Gantlos for a time, so that O and G bond to be like brothers (see episode 13)

Finally, when Morgana reappears on Earth 16 years ago, the circle reawakens them, but they do not know where she is. She seduces Klaus, has Roxy, and stops using magic for almost a year.
Then, when Daphne sends Bloom to Earth, the wizards finally pinpoint the location and go to Gardenia.

They manage to find Morgana, but not before she erases the memory of her from both Klaus and Roxy's mind, and accepts her fate. And yet again, the wizards are cursed because there is still 1 fairy left.

They don't go after Bloom, because the circle only picks up on Earth fairies.

Later, when Stella comes to Earth, season 1 starts, and I invisioned a funny scene of Ogron asking Klaus, at the scene where Bloom meets Stella:
"Excuse me sir, have you noticed anything abnormal happening around here lately?"
"No, why?"
"No reason, thank you."

Finally, when the specialists arrive on Earth, the wizards again manage to pinpoint where it happened, and discover the basics of portals into the magical dimension. It is the first time they leave Earth.

When they arrive in Magix, they are on the same hill that Bloom and her parents were, but much later. They go into Magix and ask about Earth, meeting Faragonda. She tells them the Alfea librry has information and they can use it. But they don't find out anything. They decide to stay on alert, and to stay in the general area of Gardenia.

Meanwhile, the magic place in Alfea that can apparently tell the future and that I will use in a fanfic, decides they are evil, and puts their picture up. When Bloom sees this, and Faragonda yells "Bloom! No! Bloom!" somehow, Ogron picked it up and they storm Alfea.

The Circle rejects Bloom because she is not an Earth fairy, but it can detect almost all kinds of magic.

Over the course of the season, they fight so hard (and are cheeky), because right from the beginning, they are disparate to rid themselves of their curse. (Ogron says "Finally, after all these centuries, the last fairy of Earth!")

When the winx manage to free all the Earth fairies, they devise a plan because they can not win in a brute force war with the winx AND earth fairies. Lets be honest, they were winning, if not coming out to a draw, at every time, even after they got their believix.

When their plan failed, they got disparates. Very disparates, and managed to loose in a brute force fight with the winx and Nebula.

So, this explains why everything is how it is, why Nebula and the other fairies DEMANDED revenge, and it filled in the plot holes that the creators introduced in episode 2 trying to tie it all into Arthurian legend.

That, and I really imagine Ogron leading the storm on France on D-Day to be... just awesome.

I always taught the problem was actually the same as in Magix: Magic is seen as a 'Female' proffesion. And, unlike Magix, where it's rare, but accepted, on Earth, men with magic powers were considered a bad omen. This angered Ogron, who hated the fairies who were hailed for their powers, while he and the other wizards were scorned for the same thing. So he gathered some like-minded people to eradicate all the fairies. However, eradicating what can be seen as an entire ethnicity takes time. Especially when the fairies fought back. This war lasted for centuries, until, at last, the Wizards, who discarded their humanity for both immortality and the power of the black circle, managed to eradicate all fairies. All except Roxy, who was but a baby at the time.

Well, they WERE supposed to stand for Hatred, Greed, Destruction and Envy. Not quite conquest, war, famine and death (Altough Duman looks like he could use a good meal), but hey, it's deeped then most kiddie villains. But only Ogron (Hatred) and Gantlos (Destruction) really felt like they were playing those parts up.

You know, I totally forgot about what they were supposed to stand for.

But I like my idea better :)

Meh. I prefer mine. Rolls better with the whole 'Magic is for girls' thinking of the Winx universe.

True, but how did they get all the power they have now? Immortality? Being something that you hate would seem much more like a curse. It really wouldn't make sense for them to want to be the only magic users on Earth, because even though they wanted to take over the Earth, why havn't they already?
It also doesn't explain why nobody knows what fairies are. If they wanted to be the only magic users because fairies are more respected, well, by whom are they more respected by?

I think the persona of corrupted and desperate guardians of humanity fits them so much better. They only waned to rid Earth of fairies, not the entire universe. I don't think they didn't even know that other planets existed until quite recently.

They didn't hate what they were. They hated being shunned by it. They hated the fairies for being loved for something that they were being hated for (See the unfairness there?). This wasn't about taking over a planet (At first) or being respected, it was about extracting revenge. And what better revenge then to make everyone forget that fairies and magic ever existed?

Still, they would of done something to gain something. Supreme and unchallenged rule over the Earth.

Well, it was hinted at in the show that they'd gain the fairy's powers when they'd all be sealed up.

In episode 24, Ogron says to Morgana

"We are ready to face your judgment. We renounce our magic and give ourselves up to you as mere mortals."

That implies that the Wizards are, or used to be mortals, and that the fairies aren't..

Not really, it says that they're willing to be mortals (Or at least pretending to be willing). Not that they once were.

It can go both ways. It can mean they are willing to become mortal (and that they are already immortal), or that they were once mortal, are now immortal, and willing to go back to being mortal

Anyway, BC = best bad guys Rainbow came up with

Totally agree with you on that. I might even go as far as give them a spot on the 'Best Western animated show villains' list.

I don't consider Europe to be in the western world. Best non-american/japanese animated villian, for sure

Well, most of the time European animation gets shoved under 'Western Animation'.... oh well, it's semantics, anyway.

Well, when it is animated and written by Italians and dubbed into English by Canadians, and only shown in English to Australians, it isn't American in any way at all icon_razz.gif
