So ive noticed a few of us use certain words and then get told off for using them.. But we dont actually have as thread saying what words we can and cant use. So its a little hard to just kinda know what words are innapropriate. I think its time we got a thread especially for it. Even if its this one.

So what words should we not use? and what words are appropriate to use in its place?

Posted by: wkw427 Apr 27 2010, 11:48 PM

I agree, I need this, because my mouth is full of stool.

Posted by: Princess-Mariah Apr 28 2010, 2:03 AM

Let's just say this 13 year old's head is filled, I agree I need to know what to use and not to

Posted by: mightymarty2 Apr 28 2010, 7:11 AM

This has been discussed before and the problem has always been some words would be filtered so no one would be sure except the typist what they were and we (mods or most likely admin) would have to break there own rules to post them.

So its best to take the policy if in doubt don't put the word in

Posted by: {§hani} Apr 28 2010, 9:51 AM

i understand that all but it gets so difficult sometimes.
On Woohp forum they have this thing were whenever you post an innapropriate word it gets changed into another word or bleeped out for example

say Green was a bad word, it would become like *****. is that a possiblilty for MCF?

Posted by: P-girl Apr 28 2010, 9:54 AM

We have that. At least for the words. For some reason, it was decided that some other words would be deemed inappropriate to.... so why not an update of the censoring? That, or stop acting as if saying.... you-know-which-word from time to time is a sin.

Posted by: wkw427 Apr 28 2010, 4:23 PM

Why just not list them in the rules?

Also, some mod got on me for staring out my words. Why can't we **** do this instead of plain swearing? It is stupid, really, that is why people can put them stars in to show they they are swearing

Posted by: mightymarty2 Apr 28 2010, 4:34 PM

Well that is insinuating swearing, people know that that is generally asociated with swearing and why bother swearing in covert or non convert form when swearing is allowed

Posted by: humbu111 Apr 28 2010, 7:52 PM

I agree with them, it should be either give us a clear cut list of what we cant use, or censor every word deemed inappropriate including the new ones.

Posted by: wkw427 Apr 28 2010, 7:58 PM

Or replace swear words with : heart.gif heart.gif heart.gif heart.gif

There are really two options. Taking a third size is just silly, and I dare say it, quite lazy... It may not be helpful right at this instant, but people will then know what is and what is not allowed

Posted by: mightymarty2 Apr 28 2010, 8:58 PM

Well I prefer the filter option but thats something only admins can do. So we will have to wait for an admin responce

Posted by: Chimera Apr 29 2010, 6:12 AM

Ok, I think the love heart one is a good idea hahaa
But good idea shani for thinking of that icon_wink.gif

...Uh, maybe I missed something, but doesn't the site already do that? Like, once, in the What Song Are You Listening To? thread, I typed "Cag-a-yake! Girls" (the title of the K-on! opening, fyi, and without those two hyphens, of course), and it starred out g-a-y, and got posted as "Ca***ake! Girls", so I had to edit. >_> {I'm sorry for bringing up the word again since it's obviously not wanted, but I just wanted to mention that this is starring-out thing is done anyway.}

Posted by: P-girl Apr 29 2010, 8:29 AM

On that note: the G-word.... why's that a censored word? Yes, it can be used as an insult, but it can also be used in a neutral light to describe a certain group of people. That's like, if I started to use the word 'Dog' as an insult. Would you start censoring it?

Posted by: Jahnavi Apr 29 2010, 8:53 AM

...That's what I thought too, but it's really the admins'/moderators' decision.

Posted by: P-girl Apr 29 2010, 8:58 AM

Oh well, besides that, I'm not having too much trouble with the censor filters....

Posted by: {§hani} Apr 30 2010, 3:42 AM

Well the G-word also means "happy" its not used for that as often anymore.. but it shouldnt be cencored. I know why they cencored the F word ect but if we get told off for saying the C-word why isnt it cencored? its not even a harsh word!!
thats what gets me.

Couldnt agree more .

And if we get a proper reply to the concerns in this topic, I will be very surprised.

Posted by: wkw427 Apr 30 2010, 11:56 PM

Bad words should be censored, because they are bad. the staff shouldn't have to read every post and say "Remove this, this, and that because they are bad"

Also, if we can't use the 4letterCword that doesn't end with "nt" (which I don't use anyway), it should be replaced with cabbage, instead of being censored by stars.

Example: "I just took the biggest cabbage ever.." "Holy cabbage!"

And; "I'm eating cooked cabbage and noodles. I don't like cabbage, i prefer lettuce."

This may help:

Does anyone listen to the radio?
All of the words they censor = censored here.

Does anyone watch TV? (Commercials and family-oriented shows, particularly)
Anything bleeped out there is considered inappropriate here.

Does anyone remember being told by an adult as a child to "not use that word"?
Don't use it here.

Anything deemed not appropriate to say during school from ages 8-11;
Do not say it here.

Simply put: If you've been taught that a word is a "naughty word", it is just that, and doesn't belong here.

Now, another thing to keep in mind is the vast variety of cultures we have on this forum. Some words deemed appropriate, say, in the U.S., may not be in another country. So if it makes you think twice at all about using it, simply do not.

For those who are curious: We do not have a list because doing that would be nearly impossible.

Posted by: {§hani} May 1 2010, 11:41 AM

lol wkw thats a great idea. i love it XD cabbage!

Boo. i understand but man that can get so difficult because of diffrent cultural views and thoughts. i mean im not asking for you guys to make a full-blown list just if there are softer words you dont want us to use, censor them or like wkw suggested replace the word.

Posted by: wkw427 May 1 2010, 3:10 PM

I don't watch TV that has words censored.
I don't listen to radio
When you are almost 20 you really don't remember what is a good and a bad word

What if someone used a word that they didn't know was bad? It should be censored in the forum. We aren't going to tweek our posts to be "clean". If a bad word is used, the forum should censor it, or there should be a defined list of words not to use

Posted by: Jahnavi May 1 2010, 3:34 PM

...Not to sound rude, but didn't I post saying the forum already censors words?

[EDIT:

QUOTE

But that's just the point: this is primarily a community for a children's show, and we will (and do) have younger members here. So I know that a lot of us are older, and know these words, but shouldn't we be respectful of the younger users that come on here?]

In that case, anything that is inappropriate for an 8 year old to read should not be written.

- We do censor words, but its impossible to think of every single "naughty" word in the world and censor it. Therefore, if we notice that we missed something, we censor it in a timely manner.

- As a member on this forum, you should make an effort to edit your own post to make sure it is clean. Our rules include "no inappropriate language", therefore, tweaking your posts to be "clean" falls on your shoulders as a responsibility that every member shares.

- Like I said before, making a list would be impossible (you would be asking us to research every single culture and find every single word deemed inappropriate in all parts of the globe. That, and certain words are regarded differently in certain households, etc.)

We do have a great many words censored, and will inevitably continue to add to that list. (We understand that it is difficult to know for sure what is appropriate; we ourselves have done some in-depth research on certain words before censoring them.)
A rule of thumb for this, and I apologize about how general it is, would be that if you have second thoughts about a word, do not use it.

Gaay isnt censored on any of those. Nor is it a bad word .

To be honest, I'm not sure why that is blocked. I'll look into the reasoning behind that.

I disagree. Every time that someone has told me to edit my post, it is because I said something that should have been censored.
And, when I finally change it to ****, someone tells me to remove that.

The question is, why?

Posted by: rano0oma May 8 2010, 1:08 PM

is the ''C word'' allowed??

Posted by: Jahnavi May 8 2010, 1:18 PM

Nope.

Posted by: P-girl May 8 2010, 1:35 PM

....Is it getting censored, then?

Posted by: Jahnavi May 8 2010, 3:04 PM

No, it's not. But Marty always tells people not to use it, and he's a moderator, so I respect his decision.

Posted by: P-girl May 8 2010, 3:05 PM

Just wanting some clarity..... Guess the good old 'Drat' will have to do.

Posted by: rano0oma May 8 2010, 3:32 PM

but they Boo said we can use words we heard on TV right?
and i heard it on 'hey arnold' before, i think...

Posted by: Jahnavi May 8 2010, 3:37 PM

Well, I don't think she meant it that strictly. Like I said, it doesn't actually get censored out, but Marty doesn't like us to use it. *shrugs*

Posted by: mightymarty2 May 8 2010, 4:20 PM

Well I say its not allowed and I am not sure why its not filtered

Posted by: wkw427 May 8 2010, 8:37 PM

Why get a list of bad words, add them to the censor, then don't slam people who purposely use *********'s in their posts, because even though they didn't swear, and aren't swearing, putting asterisks in your post isn't against the rules.

If it is bad, censor it.
After that, don't yell at people for putting ****'s in. I know admins can check edit history and what was typed. You can't warn or ban someone for putting ****'s in and it wasn't even a swear

Posted by: rano0oma May 10 2010, 4:29 PM

welll i dont see it as a very bad word..

Posted by: P-girl Jul 3 2010, 7:35 AM

Here's a question: Can we at least pull **** off the list? Who uses that? Except for parts of normal words? I mean, I have a post talking about a man named 'J**** Lee' and.... yeah.

Posted by: W.I.N.X Jul 3 2010, 12:46 PM

After doing a bit of sleuthing to see what the word P-girl was referring to was, I have to agree. Who honestly, has ever used it as a dirty word? It's a 'correct' term anyway.

Posted by: AnnieBelle Jul 4 2010, 6:00 AM

I agree with P-girl and Kate. I don't really see a reason people would use it outside of, like P-girl used as an example, a name.

But as for the thing with "if they say it on TV, shouldn't we be able to use it on here", I must say I have to disagree with that. I was watching TV for a while today, and over the course of the day, I heard them censor the s-word, but not the b-word [and that showed up a lot], nor the three-letter a-word or the w-word.

Media censoring these days is becoming more and more relaxed, to the extent where TV censored words shouldn't be allowed but uncensored ones should, as less and less words are being censored.
