I got really pumped about this for a couple of reasons.
For one, it's Getter Robo. Getter Robo is, well, it's Getter Robo. Second, it's being posted online, meaning *anyone* can read it, provided they have the Internet. This also means making scanlations will be a snap, and there won't be any legal problems either, since anyone can view it online absolutely free.
Third, it seems to have integrated aspects of Getter Robo Go and Shin Getter Robo into itself.
Basic rundown of the Getter Robo storyline is this: Getter Rays are a very powerful means of producing energy, a cosmic radiation that sweeps through the Universe every so often. Although harmful to lifeforms in large quantities, in smaller amounts it causes greatly accelerated evolution of any species, provided it's not at the end of its limit. Professor Saotome of the Saotome Research Institute planned to use the power of Getter Rays for the titular Getter Robo, a set of three jets that can combine together to form various robots, and use them for space exploration. Unfortunately, at that time, the evolved remnants of the dinosaurs emerged from underground, and Getter Robo was drafted to battle against them.
Getter Robo Hien, like most of the Getter series, takes place in an alternate continuity, taking only the basic premise of what happened during this time, and then jumping forward about 50 years or so. The final battles against the Dinosaur Empire had long been won, but unfortunately a greater threat replaced it; mysterious plantlike monsters that desire to subsume all life on the planet. In charge of the Saotome Institute, and with the fate of the world in his hands, is the old Hayato Jin, one of the original Getter Robo's pilots.
Jin and various scientists draft up a new Getter Robo, one that surpasses any of the previous models; Getter Robo Hien. He also manages to find three new pilots for Hien, the hot-headed Tsurugi Ryugi, the more quiet and intellectual Dan Amakusa, and the affable Gouki Hagane. Together, the pilots must work together to defeat a threat that they individually cannot overcome, along with the help of Jin, the Saotome Institute, and those still among the living.
The artwork for the manga is top-notch, a guy's already working on scanlations and has the first four chapters done, and it possesses the Getter Robo style of action-packed battles and improbable-sized weapons that work like a charm. *points to the axe*
Not sure if anyone else here is as into the whole Super Robot genre as I am, but if this sounds interesting at all, give it a look.
