Magix Club's Forum _ Advice _ Starting up a new website?

Posted by: Abby Apr 11 2012, 2:48 AM

Lately I've been toying with the idea of making a new winx fansite, but I'm still really unsure about it. I barely have time to do little things I want during the semester so I doubt I would have time to be active on it then, and I also still am not good at coding and just don't know if I am interested enough in winx to have one or that there is a big enough following for it to be even worth it. I was going to do a live show themed one, but I just don't know, any thoughts or insights?

I think time is your main concern and thats what you have to decide do you have time or not? If you do and think you will enjoy it then go ahead. However you seem to have doubts so I think it may be best it you leave it for now.

Well, tbh... I don't think an active site should be a concern. =) If you have the time and you want to make a site, are more important things to keep in mind. =D

I'm quite biased tho... I love the stage shows and I haven't seen any fansite about them yet. XD

I agreed with Sen ^_^, the site doesn't have to be really active. I mean we all understand everyone can be busy and are patient with it...but ignore those who are impatient because they need to learn how to wait. >_>

It's up to you, Abby for you to decide for your time. =) It's nice for you to create one again since I remembered you made Winx Spies and I missed it in a long time.

Oh and we can help you with the layout coding. We will take care of it for you. ^_^

Thanks guys! I might do it over the summer when I am less busy, because I still really like the idea.

So would anyone with any graphic and coding abilities be willing to help me out with a layout and the code for it? I am still unable to get photoshop right now, but hopefully I will eventually get it. I really want to start up with website but it would be nice to have like a co-owner to do all the technical stuff if anyone is willing.

I may not be able to be active after August, but at least for the summer, I'd definitely be willing to help you out. ^^

I'd love to help, though I cannot tell you when I'll be free or not. unsure.gif

I don't really need much availability, I would do all of the content. I just need a layout and a code for it. I'm also a bit rusty with the set up of freewebs. I've been playing around with the code for my old website and can't get it to work at all (nothing shows up, and it won't fully work since the image url doesn't work and I don't have the layout saved anymore =( )

I wish I still had paint shop pro, even though it isn't as good as photoshop, it was still something.

Have you heard of GIMP? I've only worked with it once but I think it's ok & it's free. ^^

Posted by: Abby Jun 20 2012, 12:04 AM

I'll have to look into it!

Posted by: Kaylin Jun 21 2012, 2:46 AM

I used GIMP in school, and though I prefer professional photo editing programs over it, you can create similar designs.

You can even find free torrents/rips for Photoshop online. Try that, maybe?

Posted by: Sasha Jun 22 2012, 12:16 PM

You can use Pixlr.com
It's an online photo editor. But, i think it's great icon_biggrin.gif

Posted by: Sasha Jun 22 2012, 12:25 PM

I think GIMP is a great program. I used it before i got my photoshop.
You can make an animations with that program :)

Posted by: dittadulla Jun 22 2012, 6:59 PM

I find GIMP really awkward to use and pixlr is missing most of the elements of photoshop worthwhile, so I wouldn't bother with them and just torrent photoshop....

My opinion, but a lot of people seem to love GIMP anyway!

Posted by: Abby Jun 23 2012, 5:30 PM

I'm just always nervous of using torrents and getting viruses.

Hey, did you create a website?

Posted by: Abby Apr 25 2013, 4:26 AM

Sadly I have not. I got really busy with school this semester and haven't even really been able to come on here. I would like to, I'm just really out of touch with coding and everything since it has been years since I have done anything with a website. I most likely won't do one even though I'd love to over the summer.
