Magix Club's Forum _ Games _ The Secret World

Posted by: P-girl Nov 15 2014, 6:38 PM

Anyone around here play The Secret World?
It's a horror-themed MMO Rpg set in modern times and it's really good. It has a very good story and characters and a very different, interesting way of progressing your character (There's no levels, but rather you earn points to place in skills and abilities). I highly reccomend it. That said, it's a mature title and they don't shy away from gore, swearing, sex and all that good stuff. But it works here, seeing the type of world you live in.

If you want to find me, I play on the Arcadia server as:
FrostScythe (Illuminati)
Nipuk (Templars)
CrimsonIncubus (Dragon)

Once I get my computer sent to me I'll definitely look you up. The best part of this game is that the servers don't matter. It's totally cross server.

Sure thing!
By this time, I already made two more characters. (Uhm, I really adore the game's costumes, so I'm trying to 'catch 'em all', both male and female. That and I have a problem concerning creating alts.)

They're CeruleanSpark (Templar) and Shadowthrower (Illuminati).
And people wonder why I progress slowly in MMOs.... <<;;

Posted by: Ranma Mar 18 2015, 3:54 AM

Lol, I was playing during the original golden week and got the Golden Tuxedo really cheap.
I also have the golden glowing eyes, green, red, and blue.

Posted by: P-girl Mar 18 2015, 8:23 AM

I'm currently saving for my favorite faction-specific outfit. I already have the Templar's Witch Hunter one. (Which is a strong contender for favorite costume in the entire game. It helps that the abilities are really easy for me to use.) and the Dragon's Wu costume. (Which is awesome, but doesn't quite fit my character's baby-face.)

Posted by: Ranma Mar 18 2015, 4:02 PM

I have almost all the Templar specific outfits. I especially love the priest and the paladin outfits.

Posted by: P-girl Mar 20 2015, 7:10 PM

I personally adore most of them. They have this military/urban fantasy edge to them that I like.

Posted by: P-girl Mar 30 2017, 10:35 AM

Whelp.

Anyway, if anyone here was interested but didn't have the money.....

https://secretworldlegends.com/

It's Free now. Currently in a closed Beta you can sign up for.
If you're going for it, go ahead and give me a message. Maybe we can meet up or something.

Posted by: Ranma Apr 13 2017, 7:20 PM

So looking forward to Legends. We have to play together if we can! I hope we can.
I hope they really fix things. I saw their dev stream today and wasn't too impressed with the combat that they said they were making better.

Posted by: P-girl Apr 17 2017, 8:21 AM

I hope so, too! That'd be fun.

My biggest worry is about the character creation, myself. I'm, like, super-invested in my characters and I don't see myself recreating them with this.
That said, it's not a dealbreaker for me. I remember jokingly saying that if Sonnac was there, I'd be there too, but that was only slightly facetious. I'm such a fangirl.

Posted by: Ranma May 13 2017, 9:38 AM

Lol, yeah, I'm not too looking forward to re-creating my character. It's a good thing they're leaving the old servers up.

Posted by: P-girl May 13 2017, 9:47 AM

Yeah, that softens the blow immensely.
And I personally appreciate that we at least get to have clothes we bought. (I've probably spent more money on clothes then is healthy. I am such a Fashionista when it comes to games.)

Posted by: Ranma May 13 2017, 9:57 AM

I've spent way too much money on costumes too. I love that I can make the characters look the way I want them to without worrying about stats. I made 2 males and a female character just because some of the outfits look better on certain genders and I want the best of both worlds XD

Posted by: P-girl May 13 2017, 10:34 AM

Same! I've got, like... six. All with their own style.
Wonder if Deck Uniforms will make a return...

Posted by: Ranma May 13 2017, 12:52 PM

They will. I hear there may even be more.
The main differences to my knowledge are as follows:
1. No more ability wheel. It's replaced with something "less confusing"
2. There are starter classes. You can still learn everything in the game, but they make it easier to start out with a class.
3. There are now going to be levels. They explained that the game always had them, but they were invisible to the player. Again, the player can still get every weapon and ability, it's just visibly quantifiable how much they have achieved.
4. The combat is now retical based with an actual attack button for basic attacks, and then the player will be able to use spells/casts and stuff like that as normal. This will, apparently, make the combat more action based.
5. The game in no longer an MMO and is an Multiplayer action game. I can't remember but I think the max players per server will be about 15. You can still run into people but this will make thing run more smoothly.
6. More outfits and new character design options like hair and faces.
7. The game uses the same engine so other than new textures the graphics are relatively the same.
8. To start the game will come out with the vanilla TSW content and then Tokyo and the add-ons will be added later for free.
9. All updates will be free.

Posted by: P-girl May 13 2017, 1:41 PM

Yeah. I've been keeping a close eye on it myself, too.
Like, I know there's a lot of negativity around some of the new systems and how they're simplified, but... I personally don't mind. I admit I WAS one of those people who did get confused by some of the old systems, so a change-up in that regard might not be all that bad for me.

Posted by: Ranma May 13 2017, 1:46 PM

Same. It took a while for me to get used to TSW.

Posted by: P-girl May 13 2017, 2:01 PM

Like, I get why people don't like it, heck, a lot of players I know say it's the reason they like the game so much, but I also get why they'd simplify it.

Posted by: Ranma May 13 2017, 6:56 PM

I think it's being released at the end of next month.

Posted by: P-girl May 13 2017, 7:22 PM

June 26th, if I'm correct. Might change, you never know with video games.

Posted by: Ranma May 14 2017, 5:37 AM

yeah. I don't think it will change though. They're using the old game engine, so it's not like they had to recreate everything.

Posted by: P-girl May 14 2017, 8:05 AM

Yeah, you're right. And while Funcom's not the most.... punctual of companies, when they got an actual date, they'll make it.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 25 2017, 2:42 PM

Early access has started, make sure you log into your account and access all your characters that you have stuff on before you transfer things over to legends! My name is Devlin-Ulric on there.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 28 2017, 9:35 AM

Well, it launches now. And I have a little secret to tell: I was one of the Beta Testers as early as the first Phase.

And thusfar I'm very much enjoying what they did with the combat and skills. I'm so much more invested on what I'm actually doing now, rather then going through the motions to get to the next part of the story.

My current in-game characters are Sinar "Nipuk" Uwais (Templar) and Freya "FrostScythe" Lee (Illuminati) but I'm planning to make more (I may have a problem with alts). Spacing them out a bit so I don't get burned out on the earlier zones.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 29 2017, 4:36 PM

Also, if I'm correct, you can still play the 'Kiss of the Revenant' ARG for some goodies in-game.

http://www.kissoftherevenant.com

Posted by: Ranma Sep 16 2017, 9:54 PM

Unfortunately I was only able to play this for a few hours. I loved going back in and playing, but I got super busy and haven't been able to pick it back up again.

My wife and I, as well as an old high school buddy. Got the wise idea to start a youtube channel and start making episodic adventures for Ark: Survival evolved. We plan on posting the first episode in a week or so. But it's taken us a lot of time to hammer out XD

Right now Ark: Survival Evolved has been eating up all my time. Even though I just bought a lot of awesome looking games.
I recently got Hollow Knight and Little Nightmares which I'm dying to play.

But I hope to get into secret world. I absolutely love it and recommend it to anyone looking for a new mmo that they haven't played before.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 18 2017, 7:15 AM

Heh, I know that feeling.
If you do post those videos, I'd love to see them. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to play the game, myself. (Ark, that is).
I'm currently saving up for the War of the Chosen DLC for XCom 2. I love that game series.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 9 2017, 1:32 PM

I'm posting the first video in a day or so. I just want to make a one minute welcome video for my channel before posting XD
The first 2 episodes area actually already made.
I still haven't played XCom. I heard it was amazing.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 9 2017, 2:29 PM

It is! It's probably my current favorite 'AAA' game series.
Also, War of the Chosen is pretty amazing. It's a massive upgrade.

Posted by: Ranma Jan 26 2018, 10:24 AM

Have you ever played Warframe? I've been addicted to that off and on.

Posted by: P-girl Jan 31 2018, 4:15 PM

Not really. Heard a lot about it. I don't know if I can handle it. I have real issues with fast-paced games like that.

Posted by: Ranma Jan 31 2018, 10:01 PM

Is it a motion sickness issue or do you have trouble controlling it. My wife just got into it, and she's not a gamer at all. She's starting to pick it up okay.

Here's a referral code that will get you 2X experience for 10 days if you decide to try it out.
https://www.warframe.com/signup?referrerId=5a6975d13ade7f7f1c0e954f

The game is free so it might be worth a try.
Also, here's a funny video that pretty much describes the first 100 days of playing the game for every player.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VuYCLelIO8

Posted by: P-girl Feb 1 2018, 7:31 AM

It's just the overall business of the designs. It makes it difficult for me to really play it decently. Even youtube vids give me a headache.

Posted by: Ranma Feb 3 2018, 6:54 AM

Ah, Okay. Maybe someday we can find a game that we can both play and have the means and time to do so together XD

Posted by: P-girl Feb 3 2018, 9:08 AM

I have to admit that besides SWL, I mostly play single player games. I mean, XCom 2 has a multiplayer mode, but I never used it.

Posted by: Ranma Feb 3 2018, 10:29 AM

XD

Posted by: P-girl Feb 3 2018, 1:17 PM

I mean I play fighting games, but those don't really make for fun social play. (That and I'd probably get beaten a lot.)

Posted by: Ranma Mar 13 2018, 7:38 PM

I play fighting games a lot too! XD
btw, I'm just going to drop this here.
New secret world legends story expansion (free)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz69_6DuHRc

Not gonna lie thought. 2 of my favorite expansions were "Last Train to Cairo" and "A Dream to Kill." Both of those were amazing and made me feel like a super powered agent of the templar.

Posted by: P-girl Mar 14 2018, 4:59 PM

I noticed it, too!
I'm really looking forward to it. Those Hyenas look awesome. And I admit I laughed at that 'I can't find the other arm!' line. (Also is that guy voiced by the same actor as Richard Sonnac? It sounds a lot like him.)

I also loved those. That said, I'm personally a big fan of Kaidan and the related expansions.

Posted by: Ranma Mar 20 2018, 2:04 AM

I think so!
And yes! They were all great!

Posted by: P-girl Mar 20 2018, 1:51 PM

Yeah!
I een dig Call of the Nameless. (From what I can gather that one's the least liked.), mainly because it focusses on the Djinn and their Lore, one of my favorite species. (And Amir is one of my favorite characters.)

Posted by: Ranma May 30 2018, 1:27 AM

Amir is awesome!

Posted by: P-girl May 30 2018, 7:17 AM

I know, right.
I'm tickled pink you can get him as an Agent now. Probably the closest we'll get to Party Members.
....
Once I get him.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 6 2018, 9:29 PM

I really need to get into secret world legends. I just haven't had the will power to restart with this new combat system. I really liked the ability wheel, and though I have all weapons unlocked because I owned the original game. I feel bad for people who just now get into it and have to pay to unlock all the weapons.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 8 2018, 8:20 AM

Not exactly. It's paid for with Marks of Favor wich you earn with Daily Challenges. In fact, the first few weapon unlocks are fairly cheap. (The prices increase with each unlock.)
In fact, most of Secret World Legends works on more of a 'Pay-or-grind' model with it's Aurum/Marks of Favor trade system.
That said, I'll let you decide if that's a good or a bad thing. I'm aware that I'm a strange person in that I don't mind grinding as much as most. Not to mention that I'm a grand master which gives me all the perks of being a patron for free. That clouds judgement as well.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 10 2018, 4:42 AM

Yeah, I don't mind grinding either. That's why I love warframe so much XD.
Quick question, I might have overlooked it, but I noticed there wasn't a passive to produce more or less threat like the ability wheel had. How do tanks keep aggro? Do certain abilities just produce more threat now?
I've been tempted to get back into it, so I'll probably log in after a week or so. I've been playing Vampyr, and it makes me wish they'd remake Vampire the Masquerade really badly!

Posted by: P-girl Jun 10 2018, 9:22 AM

I know by experience some abilities do produce more aggro, mostly in the Chaos magic abilities. That said I have not gone into depth with this so I can't say for sure. I mostly know this because I've accidentally pulled aggro during a dungeon run with my Chaos/Pistol deck and got kindly reprimanded for it.

That said, if you want to get back into things, now's the time. We're close to the anniversary Event and it's already been teased. (Balloons! Also a Custodian Dog pet.... I have strange priorities.)

Posted by: Ranma Jun 10 2018, 2:36 PM

You have no idea how hard I worked to g et all the glowy eye colors XD
For tanking I run a chaos and sword build.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 11 2018, 11:42 AM

I have several characters with different builds. That said I don't really do Dungeons.
My main's a Hammer/Sword DPS.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 15 2018, 5:00 PM

Aaaaand, we have a clear date!

The tweet that it was attached to also mentioned Hephaestus. Wonder if that means something...

Posted by: Ranma Jun 15 2018, 6:08 PM

Interesting.
Also, I LOVE running the dungeons. In fact, out of every MMO I've played, I'd say the dungeons in TSW are the most fun I've played. They don't force you to fight mobs upon mobs of trash. There's usually a boss, one or two mobs, boss, one mob, boss, boss, mob, boss. Doesn't take long to get to the next fight. I absolutely love the boss fights in this game. Especially in the first dungeon, Polaris.
Probably going to get back into secret world Legends again very soon. I'll have to get your ID then so we can play together.
The only problem with Hammer/Sword dps for dungeons is if you're doing Nightmare mode. Usually getting that close to the boss as dps = insta-death XD

Posted by: P-girl Jun 15 2018, 8:05 PM

About that.... Legends doesn't have Nightmare Mode any more.
There's Story Mode and a tiered 'Elite' Mode with like, ten tiers.
It's.... controversial to say the least.
That's all I can really say as, besides Story Mode, I don't really Dungeon Run. (That said, I agree that most are fun. Just not my thing.)

Posted by: Ranma Jun 16 2018, 3:06 AM

I think the reason I like it so much is because of the team work aspect. In most MMO's you can just tank and spank every boss. But in TSW you actually have to work as a team and employ different tactics to get the job done.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 16 2018, 11:42 AM

I admit I don't really have a point of reference. I do like the stories being told, especially in Transylvania.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 17 2018, 8:17 PM

I loved every major story line in the game. I especially enjoyed Egypt. Transylvania had an interesting take on the Dracula story though. I REALLY enjoyed, and played through both Last Train to Cairo and A Dream to Kill multiple times.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 18 2018, 7:22 AM

I love the main story, too.
I also really like Faction Specific Storylines, especially Templars.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 20 2018, 6:43 PM

I made an account for each faction in the original Secret World. I'm a Templar all the way. They're the closest to my ideology. Modern day knights.
I just reinstalled the game last night. It's going to take a bit to get used to the new combat. I noticed that I can only use the base ability of a weapon if I have it equipped to primary. How do I charge a weapon without being able to use the base ability. Does it fill on it's own now?

Posted by: P-girl Jun 21 2018, 10:48 AM

It works in reverse, actually. You get full energy at the start which depletes with certain moves (Bigger moves deplete more. Basic (? I tend to mix terms) abilities don't deplete.) but also gradually restores during combat.
I personally find it very intuitive but then again I've been using it since early Alpha. (I was one of the lucky ones to get picked.)
Also, just in time for the anniversary! We've got Pinatas and big bosses on the hour in Agartha and some other things but those are more along the lines of the summoning puzzle bosses so people are still figuring things out.
I'm personally just happy that with this update we finally, FINALLY get the Deck Uniforms back. (If you've earned them in the old game and did the Legacy Transfer). That has been my wish since the start and I'm so happy. (Most of my avatars run around in Deck Uniforms. They're my fave outfits.)

Posted by: Ranma Jun 21 2018, 5:26 PM

I was actually surprised when I logged on and saw them the other day. I didn't play, I just wanted to make sure I still knew my login and everything. I was so excited. I just need my paladin uniform back. But I'll probably get that automatically progressing through the templar story like in the original. I agree, while I usually ran around in a pinstripe suit, I loved the deck uniforms. Sometimes I'd change my uniform or outfit depending on my role. If I was tanking a fight in Polaris I'd switch to the priest deck outfit. If was Dps'ing I'd switch to the the Paladin.
I also bought a few outfits too. I had the buzz outfit, and a few others I thought looked pretty cool.
I remember when they had the contest to for fans to make outfits. I loved the entry that won, but it was later disqualified because the winner was related to someone that worked at the company. I would have bought that outfit day 1.
Also, I got my pinstripe suit pants back. For some reason those weren't included when the game first released. XD

Posted by: Ranma Jun 21 2018, 5:32 PM

I was planning on trying to bring the vampire the masquerade rp back up. I was looking through our character sheets and found it hilarious that we both used our Secret World characters XD

Posted by: P-girl Jun 22 2018, 7:16 AM

The Paladin outfit, while in the game is one of them that is incomplete, unfortunately. (The shirt's missing.)
You now can get the complete one (And basically ever yone you've earned and many more.) through the legacy transfer/account binding;

https://www.secretworldlegends.com/2017/06/22/legacy-transfers/
https://www.secretworldlegends.com/2017/09/21/legacy-transfer-part-2-return/

This will get you a LOT (Not all, but a good 80/90%) of clothing pieces you got in the old Secret World, especially the ones you purchased either directly or with, say, CE purchases.

Yay! I'd love for that RP to get back. I've been on a real Bloodlines streak lately.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 25 2018, 3:18 AM

Yeah, I made sure to bind my account as soon as it was available XD

Posted by: P-girl Jun 25 2018, 7:29 AM

Me too.
With the amount of money I spent on cosmetics it was only natural. (Bit of a cosmetics fiend....)

Posted by: Ranma Jun 26 2018, 5:02 PM

Same. My character's strength is directly proportional to how cool they look.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 27 2018, 8:19 AM

Me too! And I love The Secret World's aestethic of modern fashions with the occasional swerve into the more fantastical and sometimes just bizarre.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 30 2018, 12:03 PM

Yes! I heard some time ago that they were going to make a Secret World television series, but it never came to be. I would have loved to see that if they were even close to the source material.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 30 2018, 12:29 PM

It probably wouldn't have worked for me unless they, like, had NO characters from the game since I associate most of them so much with their voices. (Unless they, like, cast the voice actors for the roles in live action.)

Posted by: Ranma Jun 30 2018, 1:04 PM

Yeah, I would hope that they just kept the basic story, but came up with their own story lines. Can't imitate Richard Sonac.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 30 2018, 1:31 PM

Funnily enough, with Richard Sonnac, if they took his voice actor, that could work.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1250510/ Not only does he look alike to the point I stand by the fact they took cues from his appearance, he's a pretty accomplished actor from what I can tell.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 30 2018, 3:22 PM

That would be awesome. Richard Sonnac was one of my favorite characters. I loved the Templars so much.

Posted by: P-girl Jun 30 2018, 6:29 PM

Me too. I'm curious where their story's going.

Posted by: Ranma Jul 1 2018, 6:47 AM

I tried getting my wife into it, but she couldn't get past the beginning. Anything Zombie related gives her horrible nightmares.

Posted by: P-girl Jul 1 2018, 8:00 AM

Yeah, that makes things difficult in the beginning.

Posted by: Ranma Aug 14 2018, 11:08 PM

I got the PSVR headset with Rush of Blood, and she only lasted 2 seconds into the intro before taking off the headset. She didn't even make it to the start menu. XD

Posted by: P-girl Aug 15 2018, 8:42 PM

That might also be the VR. Then again, I never tried it because I get terrible motion sickness.

Posted by: Ranma Aug 22 2018, 11:46 PM

She does too, but she doesn't get too motion sick in VR games. However, I've picked the games she plays very carefully to make sure she doesn't get sick. Most VR games include a teleport mode of transportation that completely nullifies motion sickness.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 1 2019, 12:15 AM

Hey P-girl, I heard that Funcom isn't developing SWL anymore. Is that true?

Posted by: P-girl Jun 2 2019, 9:02 AM

Nope. Not true.
That being said, it's pretty clear things have been put on the back burner to focus on other games and most updates have been rather small.
Last Content Update was April 1st and in spirit of that, it was a 'Find out yourself' sort of deal. Which took a few weeks. It had several new, somewhat smaller non-story missions, one for a new pet and one to get the 'Tank Blade' item that manymanyMANY people were asking for to the point it was a meme. There's also the 'Rosenbrawl' which is some sort of PvP.... thing. (I admit I don't look into that. Not a PvP-er) and Shambala now has 5 v 5 matches instead of 10 v 10.
That being said, since it's not story, it's one of those updates where people go 'That doesn't count', which I, personally, think is somewhat unfair. Heck, the aspect of people figuring out what to do was a ton of fun and very in the spirit of the game. (I get like that when people go 'This game is dead' as well. Makes me want to go all Morpheus from the Matrix and shout 'WE ARE STILL HERE!')

Also, the Anniversary is coming up and I'm thinking that has some new stuff. And if not, it gives me the chance to get some more Canine Custodians. (It's my fave pet but it's kinda hard to get so I have it on, like, one alt.)

And speaking of 'That doesn't count'... There's 'The Moons of Madness'. An upcoming, separate game that's taking place in the same Universe, kinda like 'The Park'. Just made by another studio. It's Filth. In SPAAAAAAACE.

Posted by: Ranma Jun 10 2019, 5:52 PM

Awesome. I haven't had the time to get on and play but I'd be crushed if they shut down TSW. They already shut down wildstar icon_sad.gif

Posted by: P-girl Jun 11 2019, 6:59 AM

While Maintenance Mode is always a worry, Funcom never outright shut down a game.
The original Secret World is still online.
Heck, Anarchy Online is still, well, online. And that's from 2001.
So while the stopping of content is a real worry, the actual shutting down is not. (Unless Funcom shuts down itself but I don't see that happening any time soon.)
I know that's cold comfort for some, but in a world where games get shut down when there's even the barest hint of trouble, it's nice to see a company still running the servers of what the public would call 'Dead' games.

Posted by: Ranma Aug 7 2019, 6:04 AM

I really do want to get back into it again. I just haven't had the time with work and the youtube channel. All my free time is spent editing. But me and Tenchi every other week are like "We need to hop back into the Secret World."

It really is one of our favorite games of all time. I really don't know why everyone hated the combat so much as opposed to WoW. I felt like it was no worse, and I enjoyed the more action oriented mechanics. Like being able to dodge attacks and things like that.

And The Secret World, by far, has the best questing system out of any other MMORPG period. I don't think it will be beat any time soon either. No MMO world has every made me so curious about exploring it than Secret World.

"What happens if I stay in this obviously haunted house for too long. OMG what's with all the hanging bodies when I pass through this bridge while dead." The succubus from the Hell dungeons is always a treat to be around just because of how hilarious she is. "I'm sorry, your princess is in another castle."

the dungeons themselves are always really fun to complete. It's one of the few MMO's where I actually have fun grinding a dungeon for gear because the boss fights are all really fun and unique.

It's really a shame that this game isn't more popular. It deserves to have a more thriving community.

Posted by: P-girl Aug 7 2019, 8:17 AM

If you do so and if you have Discord, you should stop by the official Discord server. Some of the nicest people on the fandom hang out there and are often very willing to help people out who haven't been around for a while and need a refresher.
Heck, even if you're not playing, it's a fun place to go to just have some fun, if sometimes silly, conversations.

Posted by: Ranma Aug 7 2019, 3:28 PM

I'll have to check it out some time. I've actually been thinking of creating a discord for this place. It's just so much easier to keep in touch with a medium like discord because a lot of us are already on it every day.
I'm on it for my channel, and for when I game casually as well.
I even have the app for my phone.

Posted by: P-girl Aug 7 2019, 6:21 PM

I'm on it quite regularly, oddly enough not with gaming. And due to... issues I have with social media, having the App might not be the best idea. (It's nothing big but I'm someone who can get antsy when she has unread messages on her phone.)

Posted by: Ranma Aug 14 2019, 5:21 PM

Yeah, I hate having unread messages on my phone too.

Posted by: Ranma Aug 14 2019, 7:04 PM

oh yeah, forgot to mention. If you've seen any of my recent videos could you let me know if you think the audio levels are okay. I've been experimenting with boosting my audio. Everywhere I've read says that when uploading to Youtube you should make the audio as loud as possible. But I dunno if it's coming out okay or not.

Posted by: P-girl Aug 15 2019, 6:05 AM

I'm not experiencing any issues myself, so on my end, you don't have to worry about it.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 5 2019, 9:59 AM

Awesome!

BTW, back in 2017 Johnny Depp's studio said they were going to produce a TV series based on the Secret World. I wonder if they're still working on that or if they lost interest. If done right, that would be an awesome series to watch!

Posted by: P-girl Sep 5 2019, 9:08 PM

It's probably in development hell at the moment.
It could be really cool. I admit I have my issues with live action from a non-live action medium but I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 6 2019, 12:08 PM

Just watched an entire play through of the Park the other day. Made me want to hop back in again. I wish I had the time to just sit down and play it.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 6 2019, 6:25 PM

The Park is real good.
Have you heard about Draugen? It's from an Ex TSW player and it's also really good. (It has a similar playstyle to 'The Park'.)

Posted by: Ranma Sep 7 2019, 3:28 PM

I have not. I'll have to look it up!
I finally logged into Secret World Legends last night! It was good to be back, but it was so difficult getting into the new combat system. I had to change all the keys back to 1-6 instead of that left click, right click 1,2 stuff that they had.
Even then, I'm not used to the new abilities. They didn't havea chaos and sword starter so I went with chaos and fist weapon until I can get ahold of a sword. I usually play tank and that was my go to.
Though, I don't know if that's viable in the secret world legends anymore.
I miss my ability wheel XD

Posted by: P-girl Sep 7 2019, 4:50 PM

Most builds are viable, especially in Single Player.
A lot of people say the new combat needs some getting used to. Me personally, it clicked right away. (It probably helped that I was in the Beta since, like, phase 1. Had a bit of a head start.)

Posted by: Ranma Sep 7 2019, 7:05 PM

It's mainly that my mindset is still stuck in the original Secret World XD
I like some of the changes. I just wish I still have my wheel. Having the passive abilities to increase or decrease threat was really useful. What do people use now?
I just got access to the Polaris dungeon, so I was hoping to jump into that soon. I love the dungeons in secret world. Very little trash mobs and going from boss to boss. Especially Polaris. Love the hide and seek fight XD

Also, I crashed 5 times. Is there a way to reduce that? I googled it and it seemed to be a problem that a lot of people had. I have a really good computer, so I don't know what I can do to reduce crashing. It doesn't seem to be a graphic setting thing.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 8 2019, 9:42 AM

I've heard about that. It has to do with your NVidia drivers but that's about all I know... Sorry.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 12 2019, 4:17 PM

I updated my drivers and I've been crashing less. I still crash every now and then, but usually when I'm tabbed out to run mores code through a decoder. At least it's not in the middle of playing now XD

We just got done with the Dead Air quest the other day. The one early game that has you repairing the satellite, and then you get that mores code message.

Tenchi and I are determined to do every mission without cheating. So I spent an hour trying to figure out mores code. I wound up recording the audio and looked at the audio's spectrum analyzer. Was able to see little dots and lines. Typed them into a decoder and got the message "Drop Location" followed by 6 numbers. Looked up those coordinates on the map and BAM found out where to go. It's so rewarding when you don't cheat and figure this stuff out on your own!

Another favorite of mine was finding out "St. Jerome" translated the Bible to Latin. Joel figured out half the clue and pulled out his Bible to the right verse. But I was like "Nah, this guy translated the Bible to Latin, we probably need a Latin version."

And sure enough, after looking up that verse in the Latin version of the Bible; the first word of the verse that Tenchi looked up was the key to getting through the puzzle.

So. Much. Fun!

Posted by: Ranma Sep 12 2019, 4:23 PM

Also, how does buying Arum with marks of favor work? Because I keep getting caches but I don't have cache keys! lol.

And I'm bummed that I only get 10 dungeon keys a day. When I first read about them I though that it was a key needed at the end of the dungeon. I didn't realize it was a key needed at every boss. That's only 2 dungeons a day. It's like they don't want f2p people to play late game at all.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 12 2019, 9:05 PM

When you press 'H' you get several tabs, including your Mail and the Auction House. The middle one is the 'Aurum Exchange' which shows both the amount of Aurum-for-Marks and Marks-for-Aurum.

I admit I don't really run dungeons so that doesn't really bother me. I only really use my Scenario Keys (Since both Scenarios can be solo-ed) and those are actually a decent way to make sure I don't binge and play more of the game then I really want to. (Running three Scenarios a day is really enough for me.)

Posted by: Ranma Sep 13 2019, 7:08 AM

Ah I see. I just got to level 20. I like the slider. I think that's a nice update to the old system.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 13 2019, 7:03 PM

What slider are you talking about?

Posted by: Ranma Sep 13 2019, 8:45 PM

The word for the feature is escaping me right now. But the ones that let you choose what your weapon power effects. Offense, healing, or survivability.
It kind of keeps you from having to grind for new pieces of gear if you want to try out a new build.
BTW, what are scenario keys used for? I imagine "scenarios" but what are they? Are they something new?

Just finished the Hell and Bach quest. Had fun with that one too.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 15 2019, 7:43 AM

Ah, Anima Allocation!
That's probably one of the most interesting new concepts in SWL. I admit I don't really use it that much but I appreciate what they're doing with it.

Scenarios themselves are not new. Remember that thing you had to do at Venice? Well, that returns and there's now a new version that's Wave based. Kind of like a survival/point defence mode. Once you're done with them you get a chest, just like in dungeons.

I do those quite a lot since they can be done as single player. Also really handy to get in your kill counts for the day.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 19 2019, 5:12 PM

Oh so it's the thing from Venice! That's cool! I used to have fun doing those!
I enjoy the dungeons and I usually build tank. I was a bit disappointed to find that the sword is no longer viable as a tank weapon. I was doubly disappointed to find that to use the sword's chi ability you need to sacrifice an ability slot. I've been leveling up my wife's character because she can't handle zombies. So i'm trying to get her out of the starter areas (which is a shame because in my opinion it's the best crafted area in the game)

She started out with a hammer and sword, so I've been using her sword that way. I'm currently using Chaos and Hammer. With the chaos as my primary. I appreciate that Tenchi and I have been able to pretty much 2 man run all the dungeons thus far since we can't find any groups right now.

I know you solo play, but do you know if it's easier to find groups at level 50? It's a shame more people don't play this amazing game.

I spent, like, 2 hours going through my wardrobe the other day. I appreciate that you can buy clothes with marks of favor, but I wish you could use the anima shards as well. I wish there wasn't such a cap on marks of favor every day. It wouldn't be so bad but almost everything costs at least 3000 or more, and you only seem to make about 10K a day...

Tenchi and I have been taking our time with the story. We just finished the academy quests and headed towards blue mountain.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 19 2019, 5:20 PM

On a side note. I'm so glad my clothes carried over. Playing on my wife's account it's not nearly as easy to get clothes because I'd rather use my MoF on item slots and sprint speed right now.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 19 2019, 9:39 PM

Yeah, the Cosmetic transfer's a godsend. I'm one of those people who spends far too much on digital clothes and if those didn't carry over... I probably would've quit out of sheer heartbreak.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 20 2019, 1:46 AM

Same! I like that you can buy all the outfits at the dressing room. But I'm a little sad that they no longer have individual drops now. It was nice going to London to buy suits XD

If we've already spoken about this sorry for bringing it up again, but how do you feel about the item upgrade system. I kind of miss the old crafting system. In my opinion it was less grindy and easier to get the items I wanted. But the new system, which isn't bad really, is really grindy, and takes the base currency to keep using.

Also, I noticed I have a couple weapon skins. Do I get those automatically when I get a new weapon that uses that skin? Or are those mission rewards I'm not aware of?

Posted by: P-girl Sep 20 2019, 6:28 AM

I don't really have an issue with the upgrade system. Like, I recognize it's grindy as heck but I never really minded. I take grind over something I never quite got the hang off. (I remember being rather confuddled by the old system. That might just be me. I'm bad with numbers.)

Yeah, if you equip a weapon (Or use it as a Fusion Material) the skin is yours.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 20 2019, 6:25 PM

Awesome! I like that a lot. In the original Secret World I had an awesome hell blade skin, but to get it I had to use the crating system, break a hell sword to turn it into a skin, and then apply it to the sword that I actually used. Glad it's a skin/outfit in the dressing room now.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 20 2019, 7:15 PM

Yeah, weapon skins were a bit antsy. I vastly prefer this kind.
I'm personally partial to the Plasma-Forged set. Especially the hammer which has, like, a longer staff so it's almost anime large. (Hammers are my fave weapon.)

Posted by: Ranma Sep 20 2019, 7:50 PM

I love the hammer abilities but I've always been partial to the aesthetic of swords. I loved my old chaos/sword build. But my current tank build in chaos/hammer.
On my wife's account she's using sword/hammer. It's a solid weapon for both tanking and dps.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 20 2019, 9:19 PM

I have the same combo as your wife. Though I focus more on hammer abilities.

As for magic, I'm all about the Blood Magic. Especially now that they've improved animations and it looks WICKED.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 21 2019, 1:16 AM

I LOVE the way blood magic works now. On my alternate character (Still only lvl 2) I made her Illuminati, and she uses blood/fists. I kind of wanted to go for a build that could heal. Again, Blood magic looks freaking awesome now! I also really like elementalism now as well. They really improved the magic ability aesthetics. I'm a bit surprised though, that they still kept chaos as a close range magic style. I mean, it is technically magic XD

Posted by: P-girl Sep 21 2019, 6:57 AM

I like that there's a close range Magic style, myself. Keeps it varied.
Elementalism also got a huge upgrade, yeah. I especially like the fact that once you're overheated, you're literally smoking hot.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 22 2019, 1:39 AM

Yeah, and blood magic you need to make sure you aren't killing yourself XD

Posted by: Ranma Sep 22 2019, 1:49 AM

are aux weapons in the game yet?
Also, too my understanding ALL the dlc is in the game now. So, will we still be able to unlock the whip from the Last Train to Cairo quest?
Are the dlc outfits unlockable in the game now? Or do you have to pay for them?
I have most of them anyway, but Tenchi was never able to get the dlc so this is all new content for him.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 22 2019, 6:44 AM

Aux aren't in the game, sorry.
(Well, one is, sorta. But that's kind of a spoiler)
I admit I have no idea if the CE edition clothes are available if you didn't transfer them over like I did... With the DLC now being free they mostly mean the missions. Which are indeed totally free.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 24 2019, 1:31 AM

Yeah, I'm so glad I was able to transfer my clothing and everything. I still have tons of clothing options and can mix and match if I so choose. Tenchi is the same, he still has all of his outfits. But on my wife's account I find it hard to put together a lot of good outfits because it appears that most of the outfits take the premium currency to buy.

I wish there was a way to filter it by currency types required in the shop so I could just see what I can buy with marks of favor and what takes arum.

Posted by: P-girl Sep 24 2019, 6:28 AM

Yeah, searching for clothes can be a bit difficult. I had to make my own spreadsheet to get things in order.

Posted by: Ranma Sep 24 2019, 5:09 PM

... I need a spreadsheet XD

Also, Moons of Madness comes out this Halloween. Tempted to stay up all night and make a lets play for it XD

Posted by: Ranma Oct 2 2019, 10:58 AM

Lol, I'm level 36 and still in Blue Mountain. I've been trying to complete all the achievements as I play. The Floor is Lava is hilarious.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 2 2019, 8:57 PM

Heh, that's the best way of doing it really. Be a tourist. Take in the sights.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 17 2019, 1:24 PM

Finally got to Egypt. I try to only proceed with the story when Tenchi is around, and because of our time difference we can only play at certain times.
That being said, have you been keeping up with Moons of Madness? They have an ARG going. They're giving away 2000 keys for The Park, Moons of Madness, and the Black Watchmen. Grand prize goes to NASA.
They only have 2 puzzles so far, coming out with more as we get closer to launch, but I won a key for Moons of Madness. So that's pretty cool :)

The ARG can be found here if you want to check it out.

https://cyranostory.com/

Posted by: P-girl Oct 17 2019, 3:52 PM

I'm also on that. (Though I admit I'm kinda cheating.) Also got a key. Yay!
Looking forward to Moons of Madness. I like the mixture of a high tech environment with some nice Cosmic Horror.
(TBH I feel kinda bad since I gave up and asked the answers on the SWL Discord which netted ME the key.... but not the one providing the answers. Whoops.)

Posted by: Ranma Oct 19 2019, 9:00 PM

I cheated on the "Photon Sphere" answer. Though, I would have hit it soon after I looked it up. The site I was on mentioned it, and I was just typing in key words at that point.

I was a bit disappointed with the newest one because the first answer was kind of spoiled for me because I had the wiki up by mistake. Quickly closed it and solved the next gates on my own.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 20 2019, 6:03 AM

The last one had me stuck on the most embarrassingly easy part.
I'm so bad at these....
Yet I still won TWO keys. (One to MoM, one to Black Watchmen, which I already owned, so I gave it to a pal.)

Posted by: Ranma Oct 20 2019, 8:05 PM

Nice! I only won one key. But it was for MoM, so I'm happy XD
Totally doing a lets play of it when it comes out.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 21 2019, 1:18 PM

Have you solved the fourth puzzle yet? I was going crazy until I realized that it was unsolvable for a while XD
Once the ending was "opened" I solved it rather quickly.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 21 2019, 5:51 PM

I did but yeah, I was a bit confused until people started talking about the RL part of the ARG.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 21 2019, 8:42 PM

Yeah. Unfortunately, I had to work that day. Berlin is about a 5 hr drive away from where I'm at. I would have loved to go.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 27 2019, 12:36 AM

Now that it's over, did you win any other games from the ARG? I got the black watchmen and another copy of MoM.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 27 2019, 7:04 AM

I got a Black Watchmen key. That said, I had all the games they gave away besides MoM (I really like Alice and Smith and of course, the Secret World.)
That said, it made me play Black Watchmen a bit more and that was a ton of fun. The first 'Season Finale' was pretty amazing.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 28 2019, 4:50 PM

I haven't played Black Watchmen, but I'll have to check it out. It looks like a lot of fun.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 28 2019, 7:57 PM

It is. That said it's HARD. Totally worth it since the story's interesting, but there's some real brainbusters in there.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 28 2019, 8:01 PM

That's cool. I don't mind hard. It'll just make it more satisfying when I solve something.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 29 2019, 7:26 PM

Trying to get people into SWL is like pulling teeth XD
Everyone says that it looks interesting but they'd rather play WoW or LoL.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 29 2019, 9:15 PM

Sheesh.
I tried but they're either not interested or already playing.
(Still, don't quite grasp the appeal of LoL as a game.)

Posted by: Ranma Oct 30 2019, 9:37 AM

Most of the gamers around me only care about competitive play. That's why people like LoL. It's highly competitive. It also has one of the most toxic gaming communities I've ever seen, which is why I stopped playing it.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 30 2019, 11:37 AM

Which is really too bad because LoL does have some fun Lore and characters. And all that is wasted on a game that doesn't use any of that.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 30 2019, 11:28 PM

Yeah. In the end, the lore doesn't matter. you're not really immersed in the world when you're playing the game. I guess some people don't care about lore, but it always adds to the experience when I'm playing a game where I can really feel immersed in the world.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 31 2019, 6:34 AM

Hey, I wanted to ask you a quick question. I'm having a dilemma while editing my current lets play for moons of madness. They finally dropped the F bomb while reading text. Do you think I should edit out the word when I say it or just leave it in because I'm just reading what's already there in a mature game. I always try and keep the channel family friendly, but that's a little hard to do depending on what the game is. :/

Posted by: P-girl Oct 31 2019, 7:11 AM

That's a difficult one.
Like, I say if you're not comfortable with the word, censor it out, there's nothing wrong with that but... I also have to say that I think language won't be the biggest issue, later on, considering the adult content. I haven't played the game myself but thanks to a bit of an in-joke on a Discord server I'm on, there's gonna be a (Semi), naked lady, later on.
That said, I'm really enjoying your Let's Play of it so far. I haven't gotten to the second part yet since my youtube timeline is currently.... very full.

Posted by: Ranma Oct 31 2019, 12:01 PM

Lol, I get it XD
And thanks! I released part 3 yesterday and recorded part 4 last night. I'm going to be working like crazy to get part 4 out today, because it's Halloween... but it might have to wait until tomorrow.
I'm LOVING the game. As much as I loved the Park, it was very isolated to...well... the Park.
But this definitely feels like it takes place in the Secret World universe. It's dripping with TSW/SWL lore.

Posted by: P-girl Oct 31 2019, 12:32 PM

That's good to hear. Some people were afraid it wouldn't be since it didn't start as one but I had higher hopes. The story's usually very malleable in game development until the very end.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 1 2019, 5:57 PM

It's also interesting being up against the filth and such as an Orochi and not a buzzing bee XD

Posted by: P-girl Nov 1 2019, 7:15 PM

And in first person. Yikes.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 3 2019, 4:43 PM

Right?! Some parts definitely made me jump.
I beat the game last night. I'm moving back to the United States soon and I don't know how much time I'll have to play. So I recorded up to the end. So there's going to be 3 more parts. 7 is the last one. It was a trip XD

Posted by: P-girl Nov 3 2019, 7:08 PM

That's good to hear. I love it when games get bonkers at the end.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 3 2019, 9:05 PM

And keep your eyes peeled. There are some moments where you blink and you'll miss it. But there's a very familiar enemy from SWL lurking around every now and again.

Posted by: P-girl Nov 4 2019, 7:58 AM

I know. (I kind of spoiled myself. That and the whole server started buzzing when... HE... showed up. Even with spoiler tags it was hard to miss.)

Posted by: Ranma Nov 7 2019, 7:29 AM

I finally made it to Nassir! One of my favorite characters of all time XD

Posted by: P-girl Nov 7 2019, 7:41 AM

I love Nassir. Even if it's just because he's always so happy to see you. Makes me feel appreciated.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 7 2019, 6:38 PM

Right?! He's the one character in the game that not all doom and gloom. He's always all smiles and dances. And I love when he tells the player how serious he actually is and everything he's been through. Nassir is seriously one of the coolest characters in the game. If I could choose 2 characters to have in a party from this game it would Be Nassir and Richard Sonnac.

Posted by: P-girl Nov 7 2019, 8:08 PM

Totally!
Also, those two would be so cool to have together.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 7 2019, 8:19 PM

I'd watch that movie XD

Posted by: P-girl Nov 7 2019, 9:45 PM

I'd watch the dance-off. (It's canon that Sonnac is also into dancing.)

Posted by: Ranma Nov 11 2019, 2:47 AM

Me and Tenchi are in the middle of the Last Train to Cairo quest line. He's all "I don't remember this!"

And I have to keep reminding him that he never played the DLC. But I'm still freaking out about how fun it is to take people on with my bare hands and that we actually see our character fight in a cut scene. Since playing the game, while ranking up you always get this "my character is new to the Secret World and still a novice when it comes to things." But that cut scene where you fight that big guy and kick him into the bar made me feel like my character was a veteran and ready to throwdown even with his weapons gone.

Posted by: P-girl Nov 11 2019, 8:06 AM

Heh, I love that bit. It kind of helped me with my character, since he's supposed to be an experienced Templar who got a promotion due to having swallowed that Bee.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 11 2019, 11:06 AM

My one complaint with MMO's is that they never have a bare-handed style. At best they have fist weapons. But me, growing up and taking martial arts, always want a bare-handed character. DDO is the only MMO that allows this to my knowledge. So it got me excited when our characters get to show off in cut scenes like that. XD

So sad we aren't going to get the whip during this quest though. I loved that thing in TSW. It was especially useful since I always played tank and it had an great interrupt ability that pulled enemies to you.

Posted by: P-girl Nov 11 2019, 11:32 AM

Yeah, not having the Aux weapons any more is a bit of a bummer.
I was personally more of a chainsaw girl, myself.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 12 2019, 6:35 AM

I wish they'd come out with some sort of announcement or something though for new content. I can kind of get why people are frustrated with Funcom.

Posted by: P-girl Nov 12 2019, 7:56 AM

Yeah... I hope so too.
That said, there might be some new Agents popping up soon. They held a contest for the community to design some. (They haven't told how we could get them and I do hope it's a reasonable way.)

Posted by: Ranma Nov 12 2019, 12:59 PM

Oh, I entered that contest. I wasn't a finalist. I was a little disappointed to see that most of the entries that won were humorous. If I would have known comedy was what they were looking for I wouldn't have spent time coming up with a serious back story XD

When you enter you just input the character on your account to receive the rewards. They'll probably just do an in game mail. Other than the contest I'm not sure how you can get the agents in game. Maybe random drop?

Also, I finally tried out occult defence. I love it! Definitely a huge improvement over the system they had in TSW.

Posted by: P-girl Nov 12 2019, 2:23 PM

Ah, cool!
I entered too. Also didn't win. Mine was a bit of a mix. Serious backstory but with some humorous elements like an allusion to 'Clue'.

TBH, I did it for the Agent you could get as participation price. That and I have, like, so many OCs, I couldn't not.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 12 2019, 4:31 PM

Same!

Posted by: P-girl Nov 12 2019, 6:03 PM

I was just glad that they didn't ask for, like, artwork or visuals. Those so often keep me from entering otherwise fun contests.

Posted by: Ranma Nov 14 2019, 9:59 AM

Yeah. I used to love drawing, but I haven't had the time in years!
Speaking of art submissions. Remember the contest to design a new outfit in TSW? I loved the entry that won and would have bought it! But it turned out that the person that won was related to someone that worked at Funcom and they were disqualified. Still upset about that XD

Posted by: P-girl Nov 14 2019, 11:42 AM

I don't. But that's too bad.
(Especially since I know some Art People who would've done some stellar designs. And no Funcom relations to mess it up.)

Posted by: Ranma Nov 15 2019, 7:36 AM

Here's the outfits you could vote for. This was back in 2013 XD

Male outfits
https://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?74122-quot-Get-your-art-in-the-game-quot-Male-Finalists-REVOTE

Female outfits
https://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?74124-quot-Get-your-art-in-the-game-quot-Female-Finalists-REVOTE

and to see the original winner, the site is in German, but they have a picture of the outfit. This won both the male and female outfit rankings and I totally would have bought it for both.

Posted by: P-girl Nov 15 2019, 7:40 AM

Ah man, it's got a Cravat. I want a cravat...
That said, I'm seeing Ballistic Veil in there and I'm really happy that one got in. Still one of my fave outfits. (I like military gear.)

Posted by: Ranma Nov 15 2019, 7:54 AM

Oh yeah, I like that one too. I was just so excited to get the original winner's outfit. I usually dress my main Templar in suits, vests, and the like. That also fits my personal preference in black and red as a color scheme. It was like it was made for me! Lol.

Saaaame. I like my characters to look fancy.
Or, like, complete disasters.

I haven't been able to play or make a video in over a week. I'm moving from Germany back to the states and all my stuff is packed XD
I'm already losing subs, lol.

Good to hear!
I don't even want to know what a gargantuan task it was. There's at least one ocean involved.

Yep! And our new place is a quite a bit smaller than our old place. So we're having to downsize and get creative with our storage XD

Annnnd now I live in an RV. XD
Life is crazy. As you've probably noticed; I haven't come out with a video in a while. Hard to upload with little to no internet.
I've been craving Secret World lately as well. Secret World is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. How was it after the big patch? I read that they restructured combat for a lot of weapons. I heard swords were useful as tanking weapons again.
