Magix Club's Forum _ Music _ Songs that you should hear before you die

Posted by: DeadInside Mar 29 2010, 10:04 AM

OK...
There is some song that are so good (for us at least...) that we almost feel the need to make everyone we know to listen to it... the people who really love music know what i am talking about, so i decide to make a post of these songs, to comment about them and hear other people's, but don't get me wrong, the idea is not make a "your favorite song" topic.. some song we like just because we do, nothing special with them... i mean this is for the really epic songs...

I've been Preparing this since a while, so please hear some, even if you think/know its not going to like it... maybe you got a surprise

Im going to start and see if at least i got one reply... (music topic lives less than a dragonfly... and worst that this place a lot less populated than before)

1: "Time" by Pink Floyd (Epic level 10)
Info: From the Masterpiece Album "Dark Side Of the Moon"
Comment: This Song is a very Hard song... i mean, it can literally bring you to your knees and tears when you got it, especially if you are over 20s, i can say that it change my life forever, I hope that it can be used as an advise for the younger people...
Note: The intro can be boring for some inpatient people, you can move Forward to about 1:50 if you cant wait.

Lyrics Only:

Spoiler!
Ticking away the moments
That make up a dull day....
Fritter and waste the hours
In an off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground
In your home town,
Waiting for someone or something
To show you the way...

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain,
You are young and life is long,
And there is time to kill today

And then one day you find...
Ten years have got behind you,
No one told you when to run...
You missed the starting gun!

(Solo)

And you run and you run
To catch up with the sun
But it's sinking!

Racing around,
To come up behind you again!

The sun is the same
In a relative way
But you're older...

Shorter of breath,
And one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time...

Plans that either come to naught,
Or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation
Is the English way

The time is gone
The song is over...
Thought I'd something more to say

(Breathe reprise)

Home,
Home again...
I like to be here
When I can

When I come home
Cold and tired,
It's good to warm my bones
Beside the fire

Far away
Across the field
Tolling on the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell...

2: "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd (Epic level 10)
Info: Live, extract from the PULSE cd/dvd, Performed on 1994
Comment: One of the best songs, and best live performances ever, the video is amazing... yet i've only seen it 2 times, i cant stop myself to lean back and close my eyes...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJZYG5qwHHI

Lyrics Only ...Even when the really Epic is the live show and not the lyrics
Spoiler!
Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone at home?

Come on, now
I hear you're feeling down
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again

Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?

"There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are the only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am

I have become comfortably numb

I have become comfortably numb"

(Guitar solo)

Okay
Just a little pinprick
There'll be no more (OOoooh!)
But you may feel a little sick

Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working good
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go

"There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are the only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown the dream is gone

I have become comfortably numb"

(5 minutes long Classic rock Guitar solo)

3: "Love Song" by The Cure (Epic level 5)
Comment: This is a song that everyone should know... there is plenty of covers (that are actually better IMO) but i post the original for respect.... BTW Emos did not exist when that song was released 1988 LOL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PZcgi4c5XQ

Lyrics Only
Spoiler!

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again

However far away I will always love you
However long I stay I will always love you
Whatever words I say I will always love you
I will always love you

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again

However far away I will always love you
However long I stay I will always love you
Whatever words I say I will always love you
I will always love you

4: "Civil War" by Guns and Roses (Epic level 8 )
Comment: I personally Don't like GnR at all, but this songs really deserve to be heard, "I don't need you civil war, it feeds the rich while it bury the poor"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1fHxPY3TJo

Lyrics Only
Spoiler!
"What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it.
Well, he gets it. I don't like it
any more than you men."

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied!
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands, time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars!

Did you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"?
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see.
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And...
I don't need your civil war!
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor!
You're power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war!!

Look at the shoes you're filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before

Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more...

My hands are tied!
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights,
'Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars!!

We practice selective annihilation
Of mayors and government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer

I don't need your civil war!!
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
You're power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh

And I don't need your civil war!
I don't need your civil war!
I don't need your civil war!

You're power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war!!!!

...What's so civil 'bout war anyway

5: "Paschendale" by Iron Maiden (Epic level 10)
Info: From the CD "Dance of the Death" from 2003, this Song is Based on a Real Story, "The Battle of Paschendale" During the World War, let a dead soldier tell you about his last days.
Comment: Movies, games and other stuff make the people that War is a good, or normal thing, never thought about what it is actually stand on a battlefield, there is and old quote that says something like "Show a man War and he will hate it"( i don't really remembered)
About The Battle of Paschendale, As far as I know "the battlefield was filled with mud because the heavy rains and the heavy artillery got stuck, so the english army send all the soldiers on foot to run straight to the Nazi army resulting on a Massacre, that later they try to cover up... I may be wrong or not know the facts right but its something like that, google it if want more info
NOTE: this song DOES NOT encourage war, support it or glorified on ANY WAY. it may never says that war is bad, but.. you got the idea

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67_FA2AD19M

Lyrics Only:
Spoiler!
In a foreign field he lay, lonely soldier unknown grave...
On his dying words he prays, tell the world of Paschendale...

Relive all that he's been through, last communion of his soul,
Rust your bullets with his tears. Let me tell you 'bout his years

Laying low in a blood filled trench, killing time 'til my very own death
On my face I can feel the falling rain, never see my friends again,

In the smoke in the mud and lead, smell the fear and the feeling of dread
Soon be time to go over the wall, rapid fire and the end of us all...

Whistles, shouts and more gun fire, lifeless bodies hang on barbed wire,
Battlefield nothing but a bloody tomb, be reunited with my dead friends soon...

Many soldiers eighteen years, drown in mud no more tears,
Surely a war no-one can win, killing time about to begin...

Home... far away, from the war, a chance to live again
Home... far away, but the war, no chance to live again

The bodies of ours and our foes, the sea of death it overflows!
In no man's land God only knows, into jaws of death we go!!

Crucified as if on a cross, allied troops they mourn their loss,
German war propaganda machine, such before has never been seen...
Swear I heard the angels cry, pray to god no more will die,
So that people know the truth, tell the tale of Paschendale...

(guitar solo)

Cruelty has a human heart, everyman does play his part
Terror of the men we kill, the human heart is hungry still...

I stand my ground for the very last time, gun is ready as I stand in line
Nervous wait for the whistle to blow, rush of blood and over we go!!!!

(Main Guitar Solo Part: A)

Blood is falling like the rain!!!, its crimson cloak unveils again...
The sound of guns can't hide their shame, and so we die on Paschendale!!!

(Main Guitar Solo Part: B)

Dodging shrapnel and barbed wire, running straight at cannon fire..
Running blind as I hold my breath, say a prayer symphony of death...

As we charge the enemy lines, a burst of fire and we go down..
I choke a cry but no-one hears,
Feel the blood go down my throat...

Home... far away, from the war, a chance to live again
Home... far away, but the war, no chance to live again

Home... far away, from the war, a chance to live again!
Home... far away, but the war, no chance to live again!

....See my spirit on the wind, across the lines beyond the hill
Friend and foe will meet again, those who died at Paschendale...

And don't get Fooled by Eddy (the zombie mascot) or some TV evangelist, IM is for far a NON offensive band nor satanic or anything like that, actually a lot of songs have positive messages, there is a lot of songs about historic things like wars and stuff.... and yeah they have probably have one or two dark song, but they are playing since 1980....

6: "Mama I'm coming home" by Ozzy Osbourne (Epic level 7)
Comment: A song about the love of the sons for the mother no matter what... a soft and kinda sweet song for someone who was considered the anti-christ on the 70-80s... well something like a vintage Marilyn Manson... oh wait... MM sux, so i guess that the vintage MM should be... Alice Cooper? LOL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rSBgfXoIPo
Lyrics Only:
Spoiler!
Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come but I ain't the same
Mama, I'm comin home...
Times go by, seems to be
You could have been a better friend to me
Mama, I'm comin home...

You took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had me hypnotized, yeah
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes

You made me cry, you told me lies
But I can't stand to say goodbye
Mama, I'm comin home...
I could be right, I could be wrong
It hurts so bad it's been so long
Mama, I'm comin home...

Selfish love yeah we're both alone
The ride before the fall, yeah
But I'm gonna take this heart of stone
I just got to have it all

I've seen your face a hundred times
Everyday we've been apart
I don't care about the sunshine, yeah
'Cause mama, mama, I'm comin home
I'm comin home
I'm comin home

You took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had me hypnotized, yeah
Lost and found an turned around
By the fire in your eyes

I've seen your face a thousand times
Everyday we've been apart
I don't care about the sunshine, yeah
'Cause mama, mama, I'm comin home
I'm comin home
I'm comin home

7: "Crash and Burn" by Savage Garden (Epic level 5)
Comment: one of the best songs when you feel down and alone...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAHzrtckTCE
Lyrics Only
Spoiler!
When you feel all alone
And the world has turned it's back on you
Give me a moment please to tame your wild wild heart
I know you feel like the walls are closing in on you
It's hard to find relieve and people can be so cold
When darkness is upon your door and you feel like you can't take anymore

Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone

When you feel all alone
And a loyal friend is hard to find
You're caught in a one way street
With the monsters in your head
When hopes and dreams are far away and
You feel like you can't face they day

Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone

Because there has always been heartache and pain
And when it's over you'll breathe again
You'll breath again

When you feel all alone
And the world has turned its back on you
Give me a moment please
To tame your wild wild heart

Let me be the one you call
If you jump I'll break your fall
Lift you up and fly away with you into the night
If you need to fall apart
I can mend a broken heart
If you need to crash then crash and burn
You're not alone

Lyrics Only:
Spoiler!

From the coast of gold, across the seven seas,
I'm travelling on, far and wide,
But now it seems, I'm just a stranger to myself,
And all the things I sometimes do, it isn't me but someone else.

I close my eyes, and think of home,
Another city goes by, in the night,
Ain't it funny how it is, you never miss it til it's gone away,
And my heart is lying there and will be til my dying day.

Chorus:
So, understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years,
Face up...make your stand,
And realise you're living in the golden years.

Too much time on my hands, I got you on my mind,
Can't ease this pain, so easily,
When you can't find the words to say, it's hard to make it through another day,
And it makes me wanna cry, and throw my hands up to the sky.

(guitar Solo)

Chorus:
So, understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years,
Face up...make your stand,
And realise you're living in the golden years.

Raise the sights, the city lights are calling
We're hot tonight, the time is right, there's nitro in the air
In the street is where we'll meet, we're warning
On the beat, we won't retreat, beware

Thousand of cars and a million guitars
Screaming with power in the air
We've found the place where the decibels race
This army of rock will be there

To ram it down, ram it down
Straight through the heart of this town
Ram it down, ram it down
Razing the place to the ground
Ram it down

Bodies revvin' in leather heaven in wonder
Lights are dimmin' and heads are swimmin' as thunder hits the stage
Hell breaks loose, turn on the juice get stronger
We metal maniacs begin to rave

Thousand of cars and a million guitars
Screaming with power in the air
We've found the place where the decibels race
This army of rock will be there

To ram it down, ram it down
Straight through the heart of this town
Ram it down, ram it down
Razing the place to the ground
Ram it down

Shout it out, we're all together now
Shout it out, we join as one, one

(Awesome Guitar Solo)

Thousand of cars and a million guitars
Screaming with power in the air
We've found the place where the decibels race
This army of rock will be there

To ram it down, ram it down
Straight through the heart of this town
Ram it down, ram it down
Razing the place to the ground
Ram it down

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5pdECfZvrQ
Lyrics Only:
Spoiler!
I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime...
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time...
'Cause at 5 o'clock, they'll take me to the gallows pole...
The sands of time for me are running low.

(Guitar Solo)

When the priest comes to read me the last rites,
I take a look through the bars at the last sights,
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me.

Can it be that there's some sort of error
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?

Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming,
It's not easy to stop from screaming
But words escape me when I try to speak!
Tears fall but why am I crying,
After all I'm not afraid of dying.
Do not believe that there never is an end.

(Guitar Solo)

As the guards march me out to the courtyard,
Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you".
If there's a God then why has he let me go?

As I walk my life drifts before me,
Though the end is near I'm not sorry.
Catch my soul, it's willing to fly away.

Mark my words believe my soul lives on
Don't worry now, that I have gone
I've gone beyond to see the truth!

When you know that your time is close at hand.
Maybe then you'll begin to understand,
Life down here is just a strange illusion

(4 minutes Awesome Guitar Solo)

Yeeeah....
Yeeeah....
Yeeeeeaaaaah!!!!!

Hallowed Be Thy Name...

HALLOWED BE THY NAME!!!!

I put a lot in case that nobody replies, yet i got other that deserve to be here... Do you have your "Songs that you should hear before you die"?

Posted by: P-girl Mar 29 2010, 10:11 AM

I think 'Feel Good Inc' from the Gorillaz deserves to be on this list:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyHNuVaZJ-k

No further comments, I love this song so much, and in my personal opinions, it's a song where every part is just PERFECT. The singing, the drumming, bass, guitar, the rapping.... just.... perfect.

Also, I want everyone to know about 'Don't fear the reaper'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUO_5EALZoM

Classic, just..... classic.

Posted by: DeadInside May 2 2010, 11:05 AM

Hi.
Since the "popularity" of this post and my stubborn attitude i decide to edit my post and add a spoiler box with just the lyrics... because i can understand the no intention of hear anything usual that you hear attitude that some people have... and a well founded fear that anything about music i post will be something awful and nasty.... but this is not really the case, so... you don't have hear, just read the lyrics, it take you less than 2 minutes max... maybe after that you may want to try how it sounds...

Pgirl, Well Gorillaz... i've never really pay attention to it... its kinda nice, the music is smooth and the lyrics are good... if not really sure of getting them right...

Don't Fear The Reaper... from 1975... 76... i think... very good song... kinda creepy but romantic... lol

And for not make the Post in "vain" i'll Add some songs

Time After Time by Cindy Lauper
Info: A must hear Classic from the Album "She is so Unusual" from 1983

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1VlRqeTkE0
Lyrics Only:

Spoiler!
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
and think of you
caught up in circles confusion--
is nothing new
Flashback--warm nights--
almost left behind
suitcases of memories,
time after--

sometimes you picture me--
I'm walking too far ahead
you're calling to me, I can't hear
what you've said--
Then you say--go slow--
I fall behind--
the second hand unwinds

chorus:
if you're lost you can look--and you will find me
time after time
if you fall I will catch you--I'll be waiting
time after time

after my picture fades and darkness has
turned to gray
watching through windows--you're wondering
if I'm OK
secrets stolen from deep inside
the drum beats out of time--

chorus:
if you're lost...

you said go slow--
I fall behind
the second hand unwinds--

chorus:
if you're lost...
...time after time
time after time
time after time
time after time

Spoiler!
A Tribute To Kelly Johnson

Sexy girl she bought a guitar
Played the damned thing all day long
Her father knew she'd be a big star
Once she wrote that hit song

Played along to every record
Knew she'd be that good soon
Knew in time there'd be some rewards
For all those years spent in her room

She was the one, everybody loved
Remembered forever
By everyone she knew
She was the one everybody loved
A legend forever
We're so glad we knew you!

Joined a band, got to play live
So much to give, so much to prove
A marshall amp, an overdrive
Had her sound and her first review

Toured the world and made the charts
Years went by, she'd reached her goals
Made some friends and broke some hearts
Sex drugs and rock and roll

She was the one, everybody loved
Remembered forever
By everyone she knew
She was the one everybody loved
A legend forever
We're so glad we knew you!

Time came to leave the band
Another life in a different place
Swapped rain for sun, sea and sand
This girl was hard to replace

It didn't work out, came back home
Back how it used to be
Would have changed if she'd only known
Our greatest tragedy

She was the one, everybody loved
Remembered forever
By everyone she knew
She was the one everybody loved
A legend forever
We're so glad we knew you!

She was the one, She was the one,
Remembered forever
She was the one,
She was the one, She was the one,
A legend forever

Spoiler!
When I was wandering in the desert.
And was searching for the truth
I heard a choir of angels calling out my name.
I had the feeling that my life would never be the same again
I turned my face towards the barren sun

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me.
And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves.
And the cracks in our lives like the cracks upon the ground.
They are sealed and are now washed away

You tell me we can start the rain. You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears away.
You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change.
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears away.

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me.
And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves.
And the cracks in the ground like the cracks are in our lives.
They are sealed and are now far away

You tell me we can start the rain. You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears away. You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change. You tell me we can find something to wash the tears.

You tell me we can start the rain. You tell me that we all can change
You tell me we can find something to wash the tears away. You tell me we can start the rain
You tell me that we all can change. You tell me we can find something to wash the tears.

And I know of the pain that you feel the same as me. And I dream of the rain as it falls upon the leaves.
And the cracks in the ground like the cracks are in our lives. They are sealed and are now far away!

Some more classics I recently got into again. These are just pure love:

'Under Pressure' by Queen and David Bowie

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/.

And this song STILL contains the most epic solo of all time, if you ask me. Won't you fly? Freebird!

Posted by: DeadInside Jun 11 2010, 10:22 PM

Yeah!

P-girl.
Well, i admit i've never been even a little close to be a Queen or D.bowie fan... but i can feel the talent.

Free bird! so that was the name of that song! i was looking for it for years, i totally love the guitar solo at the end, it is certainly one of the best solos ever i think it should be very close to the top along with "Comfortably numb" (2nd song of my first post)

You really surprise me with that if you want other amazing guitar solos you can try "Ram it Down", "Hallowed be thy name" or "Paschendale" from my previous post or hear one of first 3 new.

BTW: Thank you for the Idea of use the Vid instead a link

"The Best Of Times" by Dream Theater"
Amazing and touching song, with a great solo at the end...

NOTE: If you lost your father recently DO NOT CLICK THIS unless you want to cry like a hose... if your father still alive go to him and give him a Hug.

The song is like 14 minutes so Youtube split it on 2.... i recommend you to load 'em both and then play the first in case that you gotta wait in the middle of the song until the other part load.

Those summer days and west coast dreams
I wished would never end
A young boy and his father
Idol and best friend

I'll always remember
Those were the best of times
A lifetime together
I'll never forget

Morning shows on the radio
The Case of the Missing Dog
Lying on the pillows at the old 812
Watching Harold and Maude

The record shops, the stickball fields
My home away from home
And when we weren't together
The hours on the phone

I'll always remember
Those were the best of times
I'll cherish them forever
The best of times

But then came the call
Our lives changed forever more
"You can pray for a change
But prepare for the end..."

The fleeting winds of time
Flying through each day
All the things I should've done
But time just slipped away
Remember seize the day

Life goes by in the blink of an eye
With so much left to say

These were the best of times
I'll miss these days
Your spirit lit my life each day

Thank you for the inspiration
Thank you for the smiles
All the unconditional love
That carried me for miles
It carried me for miles

But most of all thank you for my life

These were the best of times
I'll miss these days
Your spirit lit my life each day

My heart is bleeding bad
But I'll be okay
Your spirit guides my life each day

Lyrics:
Spoiler!
Eyes upon me
Watching me in my perpetual sleep
Dreams deceive me
My future depends on a mindless dream
I've fallen from promises
Damned to take risks on my own
The masterful science that freezes your
Mind and your soul
The wretched dream is realized
The human race is to be crystallized

Thoughts of laughter
Filling the head of the master in charge.
Worlds of wonder
Is this a cure or a painless death
I'll fight and resist
Till they all see the end that is near
The doctors the lawers and G-men
Are living in fear
Living my life with one distant hope
A cure that will kill my invincible foe!!!!!

Lyrics:
Spoiler!
There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh,
The more I get of you,
The stranger it feels, yeah.
And now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain,
My power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny.
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the gray,

I've been kissed by a rose on the gray,
I've been kissed by a rose
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray,
...And if I should fall along the way
I've been kissed by a rose
...been kissed by a rose on the gray.

There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain
My power, my pleasure, my pain.
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, yeah
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby.

Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.
Yes I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you
The stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Booyah! Seal's 'Kiss from a Rose' is Awesome. In fact, both songs from the Batman Forever soundtrack were very cool (THe other being U2s kiss me, kill me).

Meh, I don't really care for lyrics. I don't understand the lyrics from most of my favorite songs. Like..... hold on a sec....

There! Manau's 'La Tribu de Dana'

Never understood a word of it, but the mixture of folk and rap intrigues me. (Yes, I like hip-hop. It's one of those 'If it's bad, it's really bad, but if it's good it's REALLY good' type of things for me.)

I have to say, I agree with Under Pressure so much it's not funny. I love that song, and it's safe to say it's one of my all-time favourites. I listen to it whenever I'm down.

On that note, a lot of Queen, imo, should be listened to in a lifetime.

Posted by: DeadInside Jun 20 2010, 10:55 AM

Well, I think that it seems to depend of how you hear music... its different from one person to another, for me... Lyrics are very important, i really love bands/ songs that really have meaningful things to say or tell an story, a big reason to stay away from Pop Marketing Puppets and such, that only sing about vain and shallow stuff. I can't deny that i really like some instrumental music (Instrumental, not electronic... the electronic loop based stuff should stay on video games IMO) I pretty much teach Myself English hearing music... I could never kept hearing a song like that (La Tribu de Dana) without knowing what's he saying... I would get Insane trying to figure it out, and I mean it... INSANE, i like some songs on German French or Japanese and i swear, I'd to run to google to figure it out what it is about (and learn it LOL) or it will eat my brain out...
I can hear from classic or Jazz to Heavy metal, but really I Never like Hip-hop or Rap.

Pgirl, If you got a minute, really just read (if you haven't) the Lyrics some of my songs like "Paschendale" or "Time" you'll see what i m talking about.

Talking about Instrumental this is one of my all time favorites... just close your eyes and let it go.
Anything that involves John Petrucci is amazing...

Spoiler!
The town sinks into blue darkness
and a sigh that entraps the wind
strikes the sleepless window.

How are you doing these days?
I hope that those are good dreams
coloring that heart of yours.

Are you well?
That, and that alone, is always on my mind.
When times get hard
don't cry alone, O.K.?

"Don't stop, baby, dreaming"
"Don't stop, baby, loving"
"Don't stop, babe, believing"
Don't forget...
"Don't stop, baby, dreaming"
"Don't stop, baby, loving"
"Don't stop, babe, believing"
...that I'm here.
I'll always be by your side.

On lonely nights,
remember that you've got a friend,
who waits for you unchangingly.

The dazzling smiles you gave me
are locked away, like treasures,
in the jewelbox of my heart.

That night, crying, you and I
gazed up at the stars,
and I wanted was protect you from
everything that hurts you.

"Don't stop, baby, dreaming"

I don't really care for lyrics myself. As long as the melody is right and you at least get the feeling the lyrics are alright, I'll pretty much listen to anything.
However, this has led to dissapointing situations. Back in the nineties, there was this Turkish guy who made it big with this one song. His name was Tarkan (?) and I actually liked it. I mean, it was nothing special, but it was catchy, upbeat, and had this Turkish flavor. (Forgot the title, but Holly Vallance covered it.... badly.) However, because it was Turkish, I had no idea what it meant. So I looked it up. What a letdown. I never expected Shakesperean quality, but I at least expected something better then 'You blow your bubble-gum and it pops.... sexily *Facepalm* So yeah, that kinda ruined the song for me.

/anecdote.

Posted by: DeadInside Jun 25 2010, 9:37 PM

LOL, yeah... it happens sometimes...
Anyway, for me is the music is good even if the lyrics aren't i can like it... yet i'll get over it after a while, if it also have good lyrics i'll like it forever...
In different music styles lyrics are more or less important, that a very big factor too... i mean in things like Rap, or Thrash Metal and others.. the lyrics are the main boss... they will be pointless if the lyrics are bad or hollow... even so, i'll never hear anything written by someone who seems to have brain damage... random example:
"The beat of my heart" *repeat it about 150 times and Ta-dah! lyrics) FAIL!!!!

Anyway... passion is another way to communicate even without understand the lyrics.. here is a perfect example

"Ich Verlasse Heut' Dein Herz" by Lacrimosa
(today i left your heart) i think
Start slow, later it gets amazing, and the girl on the keyboards (forget the name) and the guitarist make an awesome work If you dont get the feeling you are dead

I totally see what you mean by that. All in all, it depends on the song and the artist.

Also.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9thjgHGS38k

I love this song. It's so.... flighty, but also so sad, 'Melancholy' is indeed the best word to describe it. 2D (I know the original singer isn't called that, but whatever, I'm used to calling the guy 2D) as always, knows how to convey the mood perfectly.

That, and I love the clip. Making good music videos seems to be a lost art, but the Gorillaz keep proving me wrong. The 3D, the 2D.... it's both colorful and quirky, yet dark and bizarre. Hell, I even love the gratituous cameos of the artists that collaborated with the album. (Even tough I only recognised Snoop Dog)

/dies my god pink floyd and the cure and and man they are classics. i really like the churt and the smiths too. they're worth listening before you die. Beatles of course too. you havnt lived without hearing them.

BUT UM.. isnt "under pressure" by Freddie Murcury and David bowie not Queen and Bowie? ah well doesnt matter .. behe

Under the MilkWay tonight ~ The Church
oh god were do i start. this is an amazing song Its beautifuly composed and simply angelic to hear. I guess its a wonderful song to hear when your feeling slightly lonely and sad, it makes you feel somewhat pretty again. And might i say the lyrics are just magical along with Steven Kilbey's deep voice.. and the bagpipes? never heard a song that can pull that off as well as the church does!

Ice House ~ Great Southern Land
This was the song of my early teenage years. It made me want to cry, it made me want to run away, it made me want to sing an d scream. Its amazing how soft and enchanting a song can be.
And i guess i relate to it so well because its about Australia and its geography. But honestly this
is a magical song worth hearing before you die. no i dint mean to rhyme c:

Bigmouth Strikes again ~ The Smiths
I would have chosen 'girlfriend in a coma' but i guess this is the song my dad played in the car on long trips when i was a little girl and so its my personal favorite. but both are really great songs. Worth hearing i spose they're very similar to the last two i mentioned. I guess im tying in a theme now. But if you liekd them, then by all means you'll love this one!

Dont Dream its over ~ Crowded House
I'll always love Crowded house, a great Australian band with great memorable musical moments. ARGH alliteration sliped of me. Anywho again this is tying in with my unintentional theme. But it really is a beautiful song, quite romantic but sad really. I remember my aunty has this song playing in the background of a wedding video. Thats my earliest memory of this song. Listen to it it really is quite beautiful.

The Cure ~ Boys Dont Cry
Its no secret im a huge Cure fan, i adore Robert Smith and his quirky look even at 51. And this is just a classic from the band. I mean they've lasted from the mid 70's all the way to the 2000's and are set to release a new album soon enough.. we hope. Anywho the lyrics to this are so wonderful, i mean the tittle hints it all. Boys dont cry. I love it.

The Doors ~ Hello, i love you
Oh god, jimi morrison. I love the Doors. what a great band i really dont think your done living until you've heard the Doors. And im not sure if this is their best song but its my personal favorite. My dad used to play it all the time on casette in the car, so its like an anthem of myne. I love the power and fun of this song, the keyboard, the concept of 'hello' and hwo you can say hi then love someone. Its wonderful really.

For Some reason, some people i know thought it was a funny thing that i was caring in my CD case the Pink Floyd's "Dark side of the Moon" album, they hear the "season" "cool people" music, and seems to think that something made in the 70s is worthless... in the end i was the one laughing at them.

Anyway... First, Pgirl, your link is broken... and {§hani} Haven't hear mostly of the song you post, interesting material

Today I'll give you 3 links more the first, one that you should already know... everybody knows

And the last of today is other Song special for me... a song that no one here have ever hear (i'm pretty sure)
The song is great but its really important for that time in my life
...It is in Spanish i let you to check it, i think that should be know for more people

Strange.... the link works for me.... well, just youtube search Melancholy Hill, you'll probably get a result.

Hotel California! How could I've forgotten that one? It still makes me cry!

Scatman.... yeah, that was an awesome song. Never paid any attention to the lyrics (Too much blown away by his voice tricks. That and I was like.... twelve.) And a great story, if not a bit bittersweet. I always like it when someone who's deemed 'Too Old' or'Unfitted' by todays society, gets their chance to shine. It's like a big middle finger to today's society and it's belief that you have to be young and pretty to make it.

Speaking of A Chance to shine:

oh i so love the eagles! theyre great.. really? those songs are really quite popular.. but i guess depends on who you ask XD have you heard of the police?

Posted by: P-girl Jul 14 2010, 2:09 PM

Of..... Course? Dude, I know the song, I know the Eagles. And I sure as hell know the Police. Sorry for the snark, but you seem to think I've never heard of them.

Posted by: DeadInside Jul 15 2010, 6:47 AM

Yeah, Bands like The Police - Sting, Chicago, Journey - Steve Perry and etc... they have plenty of great songs... they have great stuff... I knew only a few of each, 'cuz i went to the other music path... the darker one LOL, so it will be better if someone else says which ones belong here... On old songs, If you ask for Black sabbath and stuff like that i can answer more efficiently LOL

And Pgirl... Oban's Intro? Really? i mean i love that cartoon, but barely remember the song.. let me check... Hey! Now i remember its very good indeed...

On that note:

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

This is one of those songs that just touches me lyrically. I think (Yeah, it's still unclear. A good example of getting your own messages out of songs) they're singing about the fact that just because a viewpoint works for you, it doesn't mean someone with another view on life is wrong, and that you should be accepting of it.

Posted by: DeadInside Aug 21 2010, 11:21 AM

its been a while.. no wonder no one else post here...

Ok, "softer" is kinda relative, i mean for me mostly of sabbath and a lot of Iron Maiden is soft LOL but i got what you mean... and yeah old is better... back then when you actually need talent to be successful, now the marketing techniques owns the "mainstream music"... whatever that sentence means... i can say proudly that i kill my radio in 1999 (literally)

I know that song, but i haven't pay attention to the lyrics...
But that ok, its even better, many songs have different meaning for different people, i know a lot of cases when im sure a song is about something then someone of the band says what is it about and its something totally different... mostly of the times something disappointingly meaningless

Well talking about being able to enjoy loud stuff (even when its not really that loud) if someone will hear only a few of metal songs probably this two will be a good pair

Again, this is not that heavy, its melodical and non offensive
Just give it a try please

The first one is
"Fear of the Dark (Live 1992)" by Iron Maiden
Please note that the choir singing along the guitars is the people on the public not the band or anything, thats truly awesome anyone who can hear this song and enjoy it from beginning to end automatically gain my respect.... yeah like if that worth anything to anyone LOL
Ita an audio only because the only video version of the 1992 concert (the best IMO) is cropped

Ok i have think of some song.... some old... some older LOL, but this time im posting only some 90s songs and leave the others for other occasion....

First...
"Higher" by Creed (1999)
Very good song, very good lyrics... some people discuss if it is acctually a religuious song, but i never really care, the music is great and the lyrics kinda positives, so its fine for me

"Maria" by Blondie (1999)
Very good and popular song back then, coming from a band that came back to life from the 80s to play at the end of the century... i think they were still playing in 2006.. right now don't know

And for the last one....
"Its All Coming Back to me Now" by Celine Dion (1996... i think)
Well what can i say, its just great, the song how it goest fast and slow over and over, the voice, everything... and the video was like a mini Movie, i love it back then with the ghost and stuff.... just great
...I have hear that the song is a cover/remake from a old band, don't know never hear the other.....

To each his own. I can get why people don't like it. It's very personal to me.

On that, here's a personal DUTCh favorite of mine.

Marco Borsato -Rood.

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

Like I said; very personal. I'm usually not one for Marco Borsato (One of Holland's greatest singers/Music producers/etcetera.) too sappy. But this song, I really like. Mainly because it's an oath to optimism, and I'm all for that. It's just a bright, happy song.

....

If you skip the first, VERY misleading part.

Just for kicks, here are the lyrics (Translated to the right to the best of my ability);
Rood is al lang het rood niet meer, Red isn't anymore
Het rood van rode rozen The color of Red roses
De kleur van liefde van weleer A color formerly of love
Lijkt door de haat gekozen Seems to be chosen for hate

Dat mooie rood was ooit voor mij That beautiful red was once to me
De kleur van passie en van wijn The color of Passion and wine
Ik wil haar terug, die mooie tijd I Want those good times back
Maar zij lijkt lang vervlogen But she seems long gone

En alle beelden op tv And all images on TV
Van bloed en oorlog om ons heen Of blood and war all around us
Werken daar ook niet echt aan mee Don't really help

Dus ik neem heel bewust het besluit To I make a wise decision
De krant leg ik weg I put the paper down
En de tv gaat uit And the TV goes.... Off

Vandaag is rood de kleur van jouw lippen Today red is the color of your lips
Vandaag is rood wat rood hoort te zijn Today red is what red should be
Vandaag is rood van rood wit blauw Today red is of Red, white and bleu
Van heel mijn hart voor jou Of my entire heart to you
Schreeuw van de roodbedekte daken dat ik van je hou Scream from the red-tiled rooftops how much I love you
Vandaag is rood gewoon weer liefde tussen jou en mij Today red is once more love between you and me

Ik loop de deur door en naar buiten waar de zon begint te schijnen Walk out the door, outside, where the sun starts shining
Laat alles achter, kijk vooruit en met mijn laatste rooie cent Leave everything behind, look forward and with my last red dime
Koop ik een veel te grote bos met honderdvijftig rode rozen I'll buy a way too big bush of one-hunderd and fifty red roses
Een voor elk jaar waarvan ik hoop dat jij nog bij me bent One for each year I hope you'll still be mine

Vandaag is rood de kleur van jouw lippen Today red is the color of your lips
Vandaag is rood wat rood hoort te zijn Today red is what red should be
Vandaag is, rood van rood wit blauw Today red is of Red, white and bleu
Van heel mijn hart voor jou Of my entire heart to you
Schreeuw van de roodbedekte daken dat ik van je hou Scream from the red-tiled rooftops how much I love you
Vandaag is rood gewoon weer liefde tussen jou en mij Today red is once more love between you and me

Nu sta je hier zo voor me Now you're standing before me
De rode avondzon streelt jouw gezicht The red evening sun caresses your face
Je bent een wonder voor me You're like a miracle to me
Denk ik, terwijl een doorn mijn vinger prikt Is what I think if a thorn pricks my finger

Rood is mijn bloed dat valt op de grond Red is my blood, that falls to the floor
En even lijk ik verloren And for a second, I seem lost
Maar jij brengt mijn vingers naar je mond But you get my fingers to your mouth
En je kust ze And you kiss them
En ik weet And I know

Vandaag is rood de kleur van jouw lippen Today red is the color of your lips
Vandaag is rood wat rood hoort te zijn Today red is what red should be
Vandaag is, rood van rood wit blauw Today red is of Red, white and bleu
Van heel mijn hart voor jou Of my entire heart to you
Schreeuw van de roodbedekte daken dat ik van je hou Scream from the red-tiled rooftops how much I love you
Vandaag is rood gewoon weer liefde tussen jou en mij Today red is once more love between you and me

Vandaag... is rood Todaaaaaaaaaaaaay.... red is

Gooi de loper uit Throw out the Red Carpet
En drink een goed glas wijn And drink a fine glass of wine
Pluk de dag want het kan zo ineens de laatste zijn Seize the day, since it might be your last

Vandaag is rood gewoon weer liefde tussen jou en mij Today red is once more love between you and me

Vandaag is rood gewoon weer liefde tussen jou en mij Today red is once more love between you and me

...... I'm never doing that again.

...I never say i didn't like it its a good movie but, well... don't know, maybe it just bother me a little bit because a lot of people i know were hype about it... they also were calling it better than Blade Runner and other stuff (Me = Blade Runner fan-boy)... also, i hate that "actress"...

Some younger people doesn't seems to understand that without movies like Blade Runner and books like Neuromancer and others new-classics it wouldn't be any 5th element, ghost in the shell or matrix... among others
but getting back to music...

first time i hear of Marco Borsato... good lyrics, for me is a kinda weird music... once it really starts its gets better... what genre is that? some kind of techno pop or something? don't know what it is but it sounds very good after a while of hearing it, sorry not used to that kind of music, but thats the whole point afterall

here is one that i really like, some people says is a silly song (and maybe it is) but can tell you that it makes me smile everytime i hear it, even when its not exactly a happy happy song...
again not dark or heavy

... I have no clue. According to the Wiki page, it's supposed to be a mix of things. Starting with a ballad, going into an upbeat symphonic piece with Trance-influences, some Riverdance and some Organ-music. I guess they just wanted to have a good time (A critic called it 'A musical pinball machine'). I wish I could've shown the initial music video. It kind of has the same feel; a lot of people doing their music thing (Singing, guitar, violins, , etc.) and just having a good time, with a lot of Red, of course. For some reason I can't find it anywhere. I guess the nude models did them in. (It quite prominently features two women in nothing but panties and a top-hat, red roses painted across their body. You don't really see anything, but there was a wee bit of controversy)

Heh, I actually got a pillow with a quote from 'Imagine' (People may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one)

Two others songs I really like, are from the beginning and end of Slumdog Millionaire (Not a bad movie in itself, but it's the soundtrack that stands out.)

Not quite the same impact, but one of my favorite 'Feel-good' songs. In all, I think Indian music on it's own is so much fun. It's so unashamed in it's corniness I can't help but love it.
