AFL stands for Australian Football League.
It was invented to keep our cricketers in shape over the winter months, but turned in to a sport of its own. It is a fast, hard and demanding sport.
It is the post popular of the one of the four football codes played in Australia, with a total of 650,394 registered players.
The national competition has 16 teams with two more to be added by 2012.
