I'm not kidding!

They actually made a Barbie; Computer Engineer! It's Nerd Barbie! As a nerdy girl myself, I feel this is a victory.

That, and I think that outfit is just adorphable.

I also like how this came to be. Apperantly, there was a 'Choose Barbie's next career' sort of campaign, containing;

-Surgeon
-Environmentalist
-Architect
-News Anchor
-Computer Engineer

Now, I admit, all these choices were good and nice new ways for Barbie. But Computer Engineer didn't only win.... it won with a landslide. (True, a very popular Nerd Blog called 'Topless Robot' did a call to arms... but still!)

It's a sign that popular media is shifting.... role models are shifting.... values are shifting... and for the first time in a long while, I feel like the shift is positive.

*Is taking this way to seriously*

How neat!

Gone are the days of Barbie being a model, singer, or just a general superstar: now she's actually out there in the real world, and with that comes victory for the geeky people everywhere (myself included). icon_mrgreen.gif

Ok, ok... maybe that's stretching it, but that is still just awesome. I'm proud of Mattel. happy.gif

Though this is a momentous occasion (I may be overreacting too...), but you know, after Mattel shoots down your idea twice, you can never, truly be proud. XD

I actually never saw a problem with model/movie star/rock star Barbies. There isn't anything wrong with glamor. It's just cool to see that they're expanding her repertoire.

I agree with that. Like, that world (Models/movie stars/rock stars) ARE the real world for some people, and that's cool too. It's just nice to see that Mattel is recognizing that there are in fact other jobs out there.

Actually, the first Barbie I ever got was a teacher. So yeah...
