I just came back from 2012
And it's really not that bad. The effects were well done, the characters were what I like to call 'Adequate Stereotypes' and some moments actually got me teary-eyed. But... really, movie, did you have to give the Russian girl such a harrowing death? She was lovable, cute, almost broke out of her stereotype, you gave her an awesome moment and both literally and figuratively had the world crashing down on her (Her boyfriend got killed, her stepdad screwed her over.... and then there was this whole 'apocalypse' thing)..... couldn't you give her a break on the dying, at least?

QUOTE (P-girl @ Jan 2 2010, 10:44 AM) And of course, both of us mourning the fact that R.E.M.'s apocalypse song didn't even get a passing mention. (You know the one) R.E.M = WIN! Just had to say it... couldn't help it. Isn't 2012 coming out on DVD? I think I just saw a commercial for it... hmm... (Note to self: be sure to tell the middle-aged believer in the 2012 apocalypse to not ever insert that movie into her DVD player... ever.) The last movie I saw: Food, Inc. (A documentary that was up for an Oscar, actually.) To put it simply: It made me never, ever want to touch anything from Tyson again... or eat anything at all that didn't come from a farmers market or local supplier. It actually gave me an impulse to go through our kitchen cabinets and circle "high fructose corn syrup" in permanent marker on all products that had it (turning the ingredients side towards the front, to show everyone.) Yes; it was that bad: it was a great documentary; very, erm... disturbing, though. (Not recommended for the squeamish. I learned the hard way...)

Hereafter.
Definitely a deep movie - for mature minds only, and I emphasize that. The whole movie, and I mean in its entirety, is about a very dark subject. The movie in itself may have come off as thoroughly saddening, not at all one to see if you're looking for something with a light mood, but at the same time, it provided fuel for the mind to decide for oneself the mystery behind the inevitable. It made you think, to put it simply; it made you think about life in a deeper respect. I myself thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the holding back of tears at least twice (once I just let them flow freely, there was no stopping it.)
I would recommend for those who have a respect for "deeper" movies and who are mature enough to handle the content.
I cannot say the same for "The Social Network." Waste of time, really. The only thing that I "gained" from it was a newfound dislike for Facebook "creator" Mark Zuckerburg. The dragging on of agonizing minute after minute of discussions on this and that which could have ended within a mere few moments was enough to make me wonder "why did I bring my friends to see this?"

Went to see Scott Pilgrim the other day.
My mind = Blown.
I love this movie! The story's cute, the fast pacing of the humor is excellent, and most surprisingly, the special effects and the fight-scenes are very, VERY well executed and varied. It's said to be the ultimate Geek-movie, and I can see why. But even if you're not a geek, (I think) it's a movie to behold, altough I admit the ludicroussness all around might throw some people off, but hey, it's movies. I watch them for my entertainment and hoo boy, did I get entertained. I think it holds the record of me actually laughing out loud in a theatre. (I lost count once Wallace was introduced.)
