But if you agree/disagree with what was already said, there's no point in saying the same thing again in a new post in your own words.

Why not? There's always things to discuss. Most people have very different reasons for an opinion that is, at first glance, the same.

Cause it would be redundant.

How can having discussions with everyone giving their reasons, which can wildly deviate from each other, be redundant?

If they dont wildly deviate from each other. Hence I said, if you agree/disagree with a post and have nothing to add, you could like/dislike it instead of making a new redundant post.

Meh.... I still rather have a post. Like I said, it would teach member to be more eloquent and better in structuring their posts.

Well along with posting people could also like/dislike what they're replying to. That way in like a discussion topic it would be almost like a poll to see how many people agree or disagree with a statement.

Something of which I personally am not too big a fan off. Sure, it gives a good view of what someone likes, but the most interesting things (Why?) will stay away.

Not of what someone likes, but of what the forum as a community agrees/disagrees with. Sorry I didnt get the last part of what you said.

P-girl meant the most interesting part of agreeing/disagreeing is the reason, and you'll lose that with this kind of system. I think.

With a poll or a agree/disagree button, it becomes to easy to just leave it at that. You're seeing an opinion you like and just give it a thumbs-up, not mingling in the conversation and perhaps give it a boost or some new insight.

But I'm not saying for people not to be able to post replies anymore, I'm saying for this to be an additional thing. If people choose not to reply with the option of liking/disliking a post instead, thats their choice. But not giving them the option so that they are forced to reply with a post even if they'd rather like/dislike it doesnt sound like a good reason to me.

It isn't about the ability to, it's about the fact that it will leave people thinking 'Oh well, I gave my opinion with the push of a button, no need to post anything more'. And that kind of attitude can kill a topic.

But its not like they're being compelled to only like/dislike it, if they have something to add and want to add it, they will. Without giving them the alternative to like/dislike a post, their only option is to reply which is basically saying 'if you want to give your opinion, you have to reply with a post'. Forcing someone to post isnt the way to keep a topic alive either, especially if the posts are repetitive.

Honestly i like this whole idea.

Not everybody needs to say "Yes, I agree" for every single post they agree on. The like button would be cool because if you DONT want to explain why you like it, or you feel that they basically said the Same thing you were going to say.

I seen several posts on here where somebody makes a statement and everybody says "I agree." That would be a great reason to bring the like button in, so instead of having several posters posting the same thing without giving their opinion they can just like the topic and Just because somebody likes something doesnt mean they NEED to explaing why they like it.

I can see where the "dislike" button would cause problems because some will feel attacked. and would wonder why.

Yeah what Terri says makes sense. So I guess if the dislike button is too negative, we could just have a like button like they do on facebook. I dont know about the technical details Admin posted about so if its not possible cause of those thats fine. But I definately think it would improve the forum and make it more user friendly.
