We are currently in the process of migrating to a newer server location offered by our host. Further information about this will posted as it happens.

Right now, we are migrating the forum scripts because those aren't going to be changed.
After that is settled, we will disable new uploads/attachments to migrate them.
Afterwards, we will temporarily make the forum offline to finally move the database.

OK. Well good luck with moving the forum!

Well the total backup size in a compressed archive is 676MB... this is going to take a while icon_razz.gif

ok, thanks for telling us. Hopefully this will help the problems the shoutbox has caused

Thanks for letting us know. And good luck. ^^

The forum migration has been paused for awhile due to some technical difficulties. (if you're interested, the problem is that we can't get remote database access working)

Let's just hope we don't need to shut off the old server and post instructions on how to edit the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file and doing a "http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490921.aspx" command...

I'm curious, how large is the entire forum?

Posted by: Administrator Apr 3 2010, 2:30 PM

Around 700,000 to 800,000 rows, too lazy to open up the database manager icon_razz.gif

I figured out how to remotely access the database from the old server to the new one but I'm going to do the migration on non-peak hours instead.

Also:
The forum has been scheduled to be migrated tomorrow.
If you want to update your avatar and/or personal photo, please do so now because uploads and attachments are going to be disabled for one week. (the reason for this is rather hard to explain, do post if you want to know)

The original size is 810.59 MB. The archive contains everything about the website, including the database, uploads and forum scripts. Also, because the uploaded images are already compressed, you don't get much size reduction by recompressing them.
