Hello, today is Earth Day in the United States =). As a future biologist/environmentalist I just wanted to promote Earth Day. Here's a fantastic look at the Earth: Click for Earth Day video
I hope you think the Earth is as beautiful as I do =). Take care of it.

Happy Earth day to you too! That's so cool you want to be a biologist/environmentalist. I also want to do environmental studies or science or engineering, or just plain earth science. I also want to open a farm, and travel the world, and maybe be a homeopathic doctor... uh, anyway, you're right, the earth is beautiful, and we should protect it ^^ ♥

Lol, good luck with all of that too. I'm sure if you manage your time well you can get to all of it, say, before you're 40 =P. I graduate this spring with my bio degree, so hopefully I can be of use to either the DNR or privately funded companies who need a field grunt worker to do their messy work =P. And now some nice scenery:

Thank you ^^ Oo, nice contrast in that piccy. Grass fields vs. Snowy mountains =) Here's a few pics that could be used for a desktop: http://www.wapacasting.com/wallpapers/wate...0_3cboflxu2.jpg (rather big one, so I'll just link it) <--- want to live right here in a little wood hut with leaves for a roof ^^ Ahh, can't quit looking up pretty nature pics!

Deforestation also boils my blood. I understand the need to cut down trees, but of all the places to do it, the rain forests are not a suitable source. Sometimes the only way to get humans to protect something is to place a value on it. So, in this case, many make the claim that the rain forests benefit human existence if we preserve them, rather than clear-cutting and burning them to make room for agriculture. The problem with South America is that they believe they do not have enough room for agriculture and crops, so they either sell off the clear-cutted trees, or burn them to make room for the cropland. Some don't really know better, as they have been doing this for generations (indigenous peoples), but even they know to rotate crop land and let some grow back periodically. Then you have those who need to make a quick buck by selling off the trees and land to businesses. If anything, the governments of these countries need to make protective laws for this forest land. I know they need the land, but if they continue in the way they have for the past few decades, we may lose priceless numbers of species that will be the cause of human interference. I would love to visit the tropical forests, but I want them to still be intact when I finally have the funds to travel. Geez, there are so many other problems as well...
For my senior project I am doing a presentation on concentrations of estrogens in the waterways and their effects on fish populations. I know the UK is particularly interested in this since they have documented several sites where this occurs. I hope my presentation will inspire at least one person to think environmentally (but I hate public speaking so much!).

The government should definitely be more involved, as sometimes they are the only ones who can enforce the protection of a natural resource. Happy Earth Day again! (every day is earth day ^^) Here's the series I want: You may have heard of it. It's a documentary on the Earth with tons of high definition shots around world in places photography hasn't quite been able to touch just yet. Holy crap, I'm getting vertigo looking at this:
